And The Winner Is…
By: cathal | March 1st, 2009The polls have closed and the votes are in. Last week, I asked the question; who is the greatest Lazio icon in recent times. I can tell you now that the winner only became apparent in the last couple of days after trailing all week and the dark horses fell at the final hurdle. The results were as follows:
Paolo Di Canio: 25%
Giuseppe Signori: 20%
Alessandro Nesta: 12%
Angelo Peruzzi: 12%
Sven-Goran Eriksson: 8%
Roberto Mancini: 7%
Sinisa Mihajlovic: 6%
Juan Sebastian Veron: 5%
Sergio Cragnotti: 3%
Massimo Oddo: 1%
Marcelo Salas: 1%

There you have it, the great Paolo himself is still our icon and hero although Beppe put up more than a good fight. Were it a boxing match between the two, it would be fair to say, it went the distance. The former managers still packed in the votes which was mildly surprising. Not much more to say other than I would like to thank Massimo Oddo for the self-voting (joke: no disrespect to whoever voted for him, Massimo did a great job for us) and also for Mr. Lotito who presumably was unhappy being left out in the poll (someone voted “other” but didn’t state their choice…safe to say they were embarrassed about it. Other potential candidates for that vote were Delio Rossi, Makinwa and Manfredini. Again, no offence to the voter, just a joke). Thanks for the turnout, I won’t give exact figures for strategical purposes but I will tell you that the amount of voters doubled compared to the opening week. I appreciate every vote and I urge you all to continue this.
Time for this week’s poll. Today I am putting the question to you; who has been your surprise of the season? I don’t want you voting for someone because you are dismayed with how bad they have been performing. I want to know who exactly have you been jumping for joy over? Who is having a cracking season and has shocked you with their mesmeric displays? One vote only, the order of the choices is randomised to minimise bias and as always, I could have forgot someone so click “other” if you believe I have missed an obvious candidate. Cast your votes here. Forza Lazio!

That’s a very hard poll to answer… I’m very impressed with 4 candidates – Zarate, Leichti, Foggia and wait for it… Muslera.

i know this may sound stupid but if we are saying now that our goal is ufe cup i mean why not champions.l the difference between 4th and 6th place it’s only 2 points so if we get to 6th place why not try for 4th i know it’s sound optimistic but hey who know it may happen.
Hope soPosted from

I voted for Lichti, because i didn`t really know anything about him before. He is a very devoted player, usefull in offence and defence.Beside Maicon,i can`t remember a better right back then him.I knew that Zarate is a class of a player, but his performances are also a surpsise.Foggia impressed at Cagliari last season, and i think that he should have played more during the season. And Muslera, off course…This season can`t compare with the last one.

This poll appears to be wide open. Only one candidate has no votes while the rest are all in with a fighting chance. Keep voting folks.

ridiculous. hey, let’s not vote for people that were on the team when we actually won a championship. let’s vote for a washed up fascist who played on lazio when they didn’t win squat, what, for two or three years. b.s.

i voted for zarate because i didnt really know how good he was before this season. He has been quite influential in a lot of out games. Muslera has been quite suprising with proformances which don’t even compare to last seasons. Lichtstiener has been outstanding and that has also surprised me because i hadnt seen him play ever before.
