Impending Doom?
By: cathal | October 12th, 2009I can’t say there have been that many transfer rumours in recent weeks and if you haven’t been following the news closely, you may have noticed from my lack of updates here. However, two names stand out like a sore thumb; Rafael Van der Vaart and Pablo Aimar. Both are attack minded midfielders with huge reputations that they have yet to live up to and with that in mind, is it sensible to involve ourselves in the chase?

The Real Madrid maestro has had it tough in Spain. Aside from finding himself out of favour in Huntelaar-esque time, his wife was also diagnosed with cancer and due to her treatment process, he is rooted with the Galacticos. However, the guy obviously has plans to be in South Africa next summer and for those reasons, a January move is plausible and maybe even likely. As for the Argentine, he has just been recalled into the international fold (by Lionel Messi if the speculation is true) and as a result, Lotito sees an opportunity to swipe him from Benfica.

My question to you is simple; although these players are in precarious positions and could do with a move away from their respective clubs, do you believe our president is wasting his time in following them up or do you actually believe it is worth the effort? I’m not asking you whether or not you think we will land these players but whether you think it is worth the time or even the money. Vote below and I’ll be back with the results next Sunday. Forza Lazio!
Aimar & Van der Vaart; are they worth the effort?(polling)

Aimar? He is still one of the better players in the world! And he’s still only like 29 right?

We are benching Foggia but we are chasing a dutch looser and a wasted argentinian.

This is the best news I have heard in a long time regarding our team…I’m intrigued as to some of the comments. We’re being linked with a Real Madrid player and an Argentine international and some are still not happy.
Rafael Van Der Vaart is still quite young (and a dutch everpresent)I’d imagine with a huge amount to prove having not done overly well with Madrid. Remember it was his form with Ajax and then Hamburg that ultimately got him a crack at the Bernabeu!!
I would be absolutely delighted if he came…finally these are the sorts of players we should be linked with, just imagining him with Zarate – please let this happen!!

No offense to Laziali, but I have two questions
-Does Lotito have the cash for either of them?
-Would either go to Lazio? Both could probably find CL/Title-chasing teamsPosted from

I personally feel both are attainable for a club of our stature but I’m not sure we are the club for them and that is what the poll is about. If you feel like we can’t get them, vote “No.” If you feel there is a chance and it’s worth a try, vote “Yes.” It’s that simple…

Frankly, I think the rumours are bollocks. Its all nonsense. No van der Vaart or Aimar. You can tell its bollocks because it has come up only 1.5 mths after the bloody transfer window has closed!
Jeez. Rumours come up at the weirdest of times!

As expected, Lotito has denied rumours that he is interested in Aimar… no surprise there and I am guessing the same goes with Van Der Vaart.
What a pity, I would of loved to of seen either player in Biancoceleste colours.

I’d love to see vd Vaart at Lazio. Personally I rate him higher than Sneijder (and so does van Marwijk of the national squad and most of holland). He is a great professional and he can also do his part defensively when called upon.
