Lazio – Atalanta
By: cathal | April 26th, 2009Lazio face a tricky tie at home to Atalanta today as we seek to take advantage of Rioma’s misfortune and continue our charge towards sixth spot. After turning in three top quality performances in the past ten days, our squad is decimated and we are undoubtedly fatigued. On paper, it is difficult to see anything other than a win but in reality, this is tough.

Getting the approach right for this tie is critical. Rossi has to decide whether to give youth a chance or stick with an experienced squad in the hope of making that final Europa League spot through the league. It appears he has opted for the latter but his options are limited. Matuzalem and Mauri are suspended and Manfredini and Dabo are injured so a reshuffle of midfield is required. I expect Foggia to start on the left with Ledesma and possibly Meghni in the middle with Brocchi on the right. Pandev is still out so Zarate and Rocchi will start upfront. Only Diakite’ is missing in defence so I expect Kolarov, Siviglia and Lichtsteiner to start with either Rozehnal or Cribari taking the left centre-back role. There may be youth on the bench as Tuia, Kozak and Perpetuini have been called up. Here is the line-up I expect:
Lazio (4-4-2): Muslera, Kolarov, Rozehnal, Siviglia, Lichtsteiner, Foggia, Meghni, Ledesma, Brocchi, Zarate, Rocchi.

As for Atalanta, they have been suffering from poor form of late but I believe they will fancy their chances against us. We are depleted and they know it and it is pivotal that we keep concentration for the whole ninety minutes. They beat us earlier in the season so we need to be cautious and prevent ourselves from being overconfident. This is a difficult one but with the right mentality, we can win through. Forza Lazio!
Previous Encounter: Atalanta 2-0 Lazio (Valdes, 54, Floccari, 68)
Last Season: Lazio 3-0 Atalanta (Rocchi, 26, 88, Pandev, 55)

We are playing shocking… we need to wake up and put some goals away. Megnhi needs to come off, he is playing shit and will get sent off if he is not replaced at half time. We should be smashing a team like this….

This was always going to happen, the last 2 weeks has taken a lot out of us. I can’t say it’s a surprise, in fact, I expected it.
We need to show some balls here, risks are necessary because with Rioma, Palermo and Cagliari all set to lose, a win puts us well in contention for sixth spot. That would take the pressure off us going into the Coppa final.

What the fuck??? We attacked for like 88+ minutes and didnt even threaten once. How bad did Rocchi play though? Nobody attacked crosses, or made runs into the box. I think we should definitely sign a new striker, as Rocchi is terrible and Pandev might be leaving. I hope we secure Zarate and Angeleri quickly too. FORZA LAZIO!!!

Rocchi terrible? Do you have no loyalty? The man, although limited, is one of our only bandiere at the club and has scored so many important goals for us over the last few years. Show some respect.

Wow. We were totally outplayed and had no ideas in attack. I disagree about Rocchi being crap – he had no good service, though he could have done better with that 89th minute chance which he skyed.
Muslera 5.5
Kolarov 6
Siviglia 5.5
Rozehnal 5.5
Lichsteiner 5
Foggia 5.5
Brocchi 7
Ledesma 5
Meghni 4
Rocchi 5.5
Zarate 5.5
DiSilvestre 5.5 sub
Del Nero 6 sub
Radu 5.5 subFoggia had a short spark during the second half but it didn’t last.
It was difficult viewing, but Atalanta were playing pretty. I thought Flocchari was excellent for them, as well as their baldy central midfielder.
Anyway, that’s life.Posted from

Muslera 6
Kolarov 6
Siviglia 5
Rozehnal 5.5
Lichsteiner 6
Foggia 5
Brocchi 6
Ledesma 7
Meghni 4
Rocchi 5
Zarate 6
DiSilvestre 5.5 sub
Del Nero 5 sub
Radu 5.5 subrocchi didnt play well. mainly because there was no good passes to him but squandered most of his chances and even the time he went 1 on 1 with the keeper he didnt make it passed him, though he was offside and it was called back. Foggia didnt do much really and we clearly suffered without his creativity. also the lack of midfielding options really limited what we could do.

My ratings are as follows;
Muslera 6.0
Kolarov 5.5
Siviglia 5.5
Rozehnal 5.5
Lichsteiner 5.0
Foggia 5.5
Brocchi 6.0
Ledesma 5.0
Meghni 4.0
Rocchi 5.5
Zarate 6.0
DiSilvestre 6.0 sub
Del Nero 6.0 sub
Radu 5.5 subDel Nero was a pleasant surprise and did well considering the circumstances although I do feel that Rocchi should of been subbed off within the last 20-25 mins for Kozak as we needed the height up front…

Lichtsteiner should get 4 or 3 in the rating, he seemed really fatigued and he’s the one that make us conceded a goal… Rossi should be blamed for it because he’s the one that decide which player should be played or not, however I really agreed with his subtitutions, del nero, de silvestri and radu made us better in the second half… radu should get more playing time, this kid is really talented!!
however our hero was our villain yesterday: zarate was really damaging our team play… he wanted everyone to give the ball to him and then he dribbled it and trying to pass two or three defenders and made shootings without even to think to pass it to some players in better positions…
somebody should teach him how to play like a team… I’m tired of those snob argentinians…Posted from

According to reports, Zarate has just penned a 5 year deal with us! Great news… now on to the contract renewals of Pandev, Ladesma and Foggia.
