After the bad defeat against Atalanta we have a great chance to rectify with this midweek match against Cagliari. I can not stress enough how much we need a win. We are currently at the wrong end of the table with three draws and one loss. This is really worrying for all of us and it is causing great discomfort to all Lazio fans. We have a really tight schedule now as we will be playing midweek next week as well in the Champions League so it is imperitive we hit some form.
For Lazio only main injury worry is Siviglia. He has been out for a long time. We had an improved performance at Bergamo against Atalanta in spite of losing so hopefully once again we can improve and finally win a match. A rather depressing fact this seaosn is that Lazio have not scored first in any game they have played.
Lazio Formation: 4312(probable)
Muslera
De Silvestri–Cribari–Stendardo–Zauri
Mudingayi–Ladesma–Mutarelli
Mauri
Pandev–Rocchi
Recent Form:
Sampdoria 0 - 0 Lazio
Lazio 0 - 0 Empoli
Atalanta 2 - 1 Lazio
Cagliari will most likely go for an unchanged team fom he one that lost to Palermo for this match. Cagliari’s main threat will come from Foggia who is on loan there from Lazio. Foggia is really on form and recently was called to the Italian National Team. Last season when he was on loan to Reggina he scored against us so lets hope he does repeat the trick.
Cagliari Formation: 442(probable)
Fortin
Ferri–Canini–Bianco–Del Grosso
Foggia–Conti–Parola–D’Agostino
Larrivey–Matri
Recent Form:
Cagliari 2 - 3 Juventus
Parma 1 - 1 Cagliari
Cagliari 0 - 1 Palermo

What do you think Lazio’s CL expectations are? Obviously the goal is qualification to the next round, but realistically, is the club hoping for a UEFA Cup birth? Having Bremen in the group sucks because they are the type of the team that gains momentum. But then again, perhaps the same could be said of Lazio? I know you guys had a rough start to Serie A, but todays game was promising.

Inara: Nothing. I do not expect anything from Lazio in the Champions League. The Champions League is a bonus. I only see the Champions League as a cash cow and a distraction. I can not stress enough how much we need the money. Currently we are running the club as tightly as possible after we avoided bankruptcy in 2004. Back then Lazio has debts of over €200 million after the Cirio collapse. We had to come up with the money to the Inland Revenue otherwise we would cease to exist. I know Italy is a corrupt country with all sorts or murky things going on but seriously that should be away from the public eye. In the final minutes close to the deadline Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi(no stranger to controversy)forced the Inland Revenue to accept a frankly insane deal whereby Lazio would pay back the money over the next 25 years. The reason? “Lazio is too important to be bankrupt. It would cause too much public unrest”. Insane. We all know that is illegal but hey we Lazio fans are not complaining. LOL at Fiorentina and Napoli who are not important enough to be saved from bankruptcy. Anyway we have to pay that money back so our players are paid practically nothing compared to the top clubs. Even Catania has a bigger wage bill then us so getting into the Champions League was an amazing feat. We have not got any super players but still they are good players some of them. I suppose getting to the next round would be a great achievement but like I said a bonus. We do not certainly expect it. We won today after dominating the match so I am in a better mood. On our day we can give a match to any team such as Roma, who we beat 3-0 last season. We need to reach that level again. Actually I was pretty relieved to have Bremen rather then some other great teams from that same pot such as Valencia, Sevilla and Lyonnais. We face our friends Real Madrid at home next so that will be a truer test of how we are going to do.

I think Lazio can get a EUFA Cup spot. You basically have to edge out Olympiakos for it. I won’t say that shouldn’t be too difficult because that’s the kiss of death, but you should be able to do it. Needed win against Cagliari yesterday.

Joe: I think we can get a UEFA Cup spot. Every match will be crucial but I do not think we will be awed by the occasion. We got Reggina away next. Then Real Madrid and Milan. A tough three fixtures to say the least. Not only did we play a good game but we dominated. It just took us a long time breaking down Cagliari.
