Lazio – Inter
By: cathal | December 5th, 2008Italian giants, Inter Milan will travel to the Olimpico tomorrow to take on a Lazio side buoyed by a fantastic victory against the Nerazzurro’s archrivals, Milan.
As many of you will know, this is traditionally a tie between friends, however with so much at stake, I wouldn’t expect any favours to be dished out. Inter’s record of late has been impeccable; ours on the other hand has been patchy and we will have to up our game if we are to have any chance against the current champions. The main plus I guess is the fact we managed to turn things around in midweek and our boys will head into the game with bags of confidence. The downside is the fatigue we are inevitably suffering after firstly playing a game just two days ago and secondly, the issue of having to play at our best for 120 minutes.
Therefore I expect Rossi to do some major reshuffling of the pack. I am disregarding all predicted line ups as I am sure Brocchi, Mauri, Zarate and Radu will all feature. If Lichtsteiner and Siviglia are fit and ready to go then expect them to slot into the backline. Delio has a tough choice to make between the sharp again Pandev and the fresher Rocchi. For me, the key will be to find the balance between on-song individuals and those with the less lethargic legs. If Rossi gets it right, I am expecting a high-octane performance but should he get it wrong, I expect Inter to punish our weary legs. Hopefully Delio makes the correct decision (how many times have I said that this season?).
Inter may be running away with the Scudetto but I still don’t rate them that highly. As far as I’m concerned, they only have the two world class players; Ibrahimovic and Cambiasso. Zlatan is a powerhouse who is capable of making something out of nothing. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if he could turn water into wine for some of his goals have been truly miraculous. Cambs is one of those players whose work goes largely unnoticed. With the greatest of respect to Ledesma, he is Cristian x10 and the little dynamo is probably the best in the world at what he does. If we can nullify these dangers, I fancy our chances. As for the “special one” himself, well, he’s not a problem. Mr. Motivator he may be but Mr. Infallible he is not.
I don’t think I need to say that I’m looking forward to this one, the occasion speaks for itself. However, after undergoing a massive midweek surge in my spirits, I am in no mood to see that wiped out. I am going to enjoy this game and hopefully the result. Even the slightest of wins will be enough to shut every last critic on the planet up. Here’s hoping, eh? Forza Lazio!

You don’t consider Julio Cesar to be world class?

No.
I’m harsh on goalkeepers as I am sure people have noticed.
I genuinely believe there are much better alternatives out there although he is having a good season I guess.

Which goalies would you consider world class? JC has been absolutely class for Inter for the past 3 years or so now.

Cathal, I would add Julio Cesar and Samuel to that list of class players Inter have. Samuel is a brute, but he adds a lot to their back-line.
Other than that quartet, in my opinion, Inter Merda is pretty “bleh”.
Do us all a favour tomorrow aye Lazio!

@ Julian: Casillas, Buffon, Given and Cech are all a cut above Julio Cesar for me. There’s probably more but those four spring to mind.
@ Nnahoj: I don’t consider Samuel world class, I think he has massively underachieved in his career but then again I am biased for obvious reasons.

Funny. Casillas and Chech are also who Julio Cesar named as 2 of his idols.
Given that Inter have the best defensive record in the league right now (8 goals conceded – as compared to Lazio’s 16), I think he is “world class” enough for me.
Also, you might reconsider Maicon for your list. He kicks ass.

Oh, and last season we only conceded 26 goals all season (as opposed to Lazio’s 51).
I am a little protective of JC. He is one of the few players that I will actually fight for on this board.
(put up your dukes, Cathal!)

Doesn’t necessarily mean JC is the reason, could be the defense. But I would agree that he’s world-class……definitely better than Cech. Cech was great for two seasons and has literally imploded recently, and Casillas did not impress me at all in the double against them.
Vinci 5-2 ancora!!

Maicon is easily up there with Ibra and Cambiasso as a key player. He could destroy us if we aren’t on top of things.
and Julio Cesar is in my opinion, better than Petr Cech, although not Buffon, Casillas or Sebastien Frey.

Cech’s no longer the keeper he once was. If we’re talking world class keepers, my top 5 are
Buffon
Casillas (and he’s been slipping lately)
JC
Frey
And Dida (I kid)Posted from

See, Frey is good for Fiorentina, but he just totally lost his mind when he played for the French National team. Julio Cesar is Brazil’s #1. I think that puts him above Frey – on a global scale, that is.

Woo hoo! Inter has doubled the amount of world class players they have. They are now deemed to have a whole TWO!!!!
Inter should easily be beat by Lazio tomorrow. Lazio only has 2 players they need to worry about containing. Piece of cake!

Lazio will always have a place in my heart for that.
And because of Nedved. And Peruzzi.

May 5, 2002 isn’t even an issue anymore. It’s old boring news
May 18, 2008 completely erases that day as far as I am concerned. Or how about April 22, 2007?!

For me, Maicon and Julio Cesar are a few seasons away from being considered world class. It wasn’t long ago that the pair were wery suspect.
I don’t think the Inter defence is as good as people make out. Of course I can’t deny that it is probably the best in Serie A. Nevertheless, being the best defence in Italy doesn’t say as much as it did ten years ago. However, Inter will be difficult to break down, make no mistake about that.
My point with Cambs and Ibra is that if you don’t contain those two, you will get killed. If you can neutralise them, Inter are suddenly not the same force. Maicon is indeed a threat but he’s not the centrepiece of the team if you understand what I mean.
Let’s not forget either that Lazio have their own weapons who Inter need to beware of.

For me,Maicon and Dani Alves are the best RB in the world at the moment, but i agree that Maicon is not Inter`s central figure. However,he is a very good player in the attack. It`s gonna be a hard game tonight, but i think there`s not gonna be a lot of goals.1-1 my prediction.

There was some serious horseshit refereeing in this game. Who the fuck is Orsato, anyways.
