Lazio – Lecce

By: cathal | October 3rd, 2008

Lazio will welcome newly promoted Lecce to the Stadio Olimpico tomorrow afternoon and we will be bidding to collect all three points against a side widely tipped for relegation.

We may be sitting proudly at the top of the table but Lecce are certainly exceeding expectations. Nevertheless, this is a must win game for us as on paper, this is one of the season’s easiest encounters. Lecce play a certain brand of football as do we and what it will all boil down to tomorrow, in my opinion, is a battle between the Lazio attack and the Lecce defence.

We have got a good squad assembled and ready to play but unfortunately Rocchi will not be part of the proceedings. He has recovered fully from his leg injury but has now contracted tonsillitis and will be left out. This is a grave shame to all of us fans who were hoping to see a glimpse of him in action. Also out of the game is Matuzalem, Firmani and Del Nero. However, both Inzaghi and Diakite’ have been rewarded with places in the squad after encouraging midweek performances. I would expect Rossi to field a team similar to the side that lined out against Torino. The only stumbling block is fatigue. Having played on Wednesday night, the players have less than 72 hours to recover and that could cause problems late in the game. I think Ledesma could be the one who suffers the most but hopefully facing the club that kickstarted his career will give him added impetus.

Lecce’s stubborn defensive game will have to be perfect to stop the seemingly unstoppable Pandev and Zarate. Their defense will be headed by Lazio outcast, Stendardo. Guglielmo will make an emotional return to the Olimpico and will no doubt be looking to get one over on us. I wish him all the best at Lecce, I really do, but I will be gutted if he comes back to bite us in the ass tomorrow. The other thing that concerns me is their manager; Beretta is a vastly underrated tactician and I expect Lecce to come out with a firm gameplan. Looking at their probable line up, I have to say they do have quite a few decent players too, particularly Caserta, but to be honest, there’s only one acceptable result for us; a convincing win.

I would be incredibly disappointed and frustrated if we got anything less than a win from the game. Lecce will cause us problems and will pose a threat but if we keep calm and snuff out the danger then we can look forward to another week on top. Forza Lazio!

Can’t believe Rocchi’s lousy luck this year. Hopefully he won’t be out much longer…I expect Lecce to sit back and defend to high heaven, so it should be a tough, but winnable game.

As lousy as his luck as his been, it’s no disaster for us whereas in previous seasons, this kind of event would ruin us. What will be critical is his integration into the team. No pre-season, followed by the injury means he will need time to adapt to the new teammates, especially Zarate and Foggia. I think Rossi will ease him in with a few substitute appearances.

I agree, Lecce will defend and play to their strengths. It’s a dangerous tie but one we should win. Could be an excellent tactical battle.

I agree, I don’t think that Rocchi would fit in straight away but would be introduced in a matter of 2-3 games.

This encounter should be a convincing win for us but less then 3 points I would consider it a failure.

BTW, Anyone have any streaming links to watch the game??

I think Bet365 are showing the game but you have to register with them before the match can be viewed.

Due to the time of the game, I would think a stream for this game will be available but as yet, none are listed. I will post them as I find them.

    Thanks inzaghi!
    Thank you. .
    Thank you. .
Put lichestener on the bench and pick up silvestri to the first team.

Radu need to rest for a while and we need to see kolarov running, and cross the ball to penalty area because we have simone at forward just for now.

Brocchi is a good player but i’d love to watch mutareli back to the team.he isn’t skillfull man but he has character.

    Carrizo,silvestri,siviglia,rozehnal,mutareli,foggia,ledesma,zarate,inzaghi,pandev.

I hope bologna doing good job against inter.

In january we must believe that lotito will upload two star to delio rosi’s team.augusto and monster defender.

    Long live lazio.
    Avanti indonesian laziale.
    Forza salvatore and cathal.
    Go sinisarman.

Great to see Inzaghi’s same on a Serie A scoresheet again. It’s been too long. I used to love watching him back in the day. It’s a shame though, it just goes to highlight what could have been. Ah well, Well done Inzaghi :)

This is for everyone who doesn’t have Verizon and wants to access ESPN360.com

Seriea.tv was our only reliable option last year and this year it doesn’t look like its coming back. And Streaming is extremely unreliable.

Just click on “GET DETAILS” under START WATCHING NOW and submit your name.
