Lazio – Milan
By: cathal | January 31st, 2009Lazio will be ready and waiting at the Olimpico tomorrow to do battle with an on-song Milan side looking to take advantage of our recent woes and move closer to the top of Serie A. It should be a fascinating encounter. Understandably many of us are apprehensive of this game and rightfully so but we must keep in mind that we have managed to beat them once already this season and there’s no real reason to fear them.
Both sides have got injury troubles. For us, Rocchi is the main absentee. Although he could technically be risked, the doctors believe that he could end up aggravating his injury (I believe it is a thigh problem), leaving him out of action for two months. Therefore, a decision has been taken to rest him for two weeks. In addition to Tommaso, Brocchi and Meghni were/are also doubts. Cristian hurt his left ankle in training during the week and Meghni has a problem with his left foot. It seems Rossi will risk Brocchi in the three man midfield alongside Ledesma and newly-fit Matuzalem. Meghni is not ready apparently and will thus be left behind. Foggia and Lichtsteiner are both suspended so Mauri will play the trequartista role behind Pandev and Zarate while De Silvestri slots into the right-back position. Rozehnal is likely to be recalled to defence to partner Siviglia. I believe this is and always has been Delio’s preferred backline this season. Radu will play on the left side and Muslera has been confirmed as tomorrow’s goalkeeper. No doubt in my mind that Rossi was fibbing when he said he was giving Carrizo a rest. At least for now, Nestor is number one. It’s a relatively strong line up I feel, especially given our selection limits but I hope Inzaghi gets a chance. There’s also the possibility that Mendicino will make the bench but he could be tired after recent Primavera action.
If you think our team is depleted, Milan are arguably worse off. Defensively they could be in serious trouble. Maldini is suspended, Nesta is still injured and Bonera has the flu. Kaladze is also out so that backline could be very unfamiliar. Gattuso and Flamini are the other notable absentees. Of course, it’s the attack of the Milanese outfit that I fear the most. In Kaka, Ronaldinho, Pato, Shevchenko and co. they have an abundance of attacking talent and the best approach for us must be to press forward when possible. We can’t let that attack get a foothold in the game or they will romp away with the three points.
It’s a tough tie made all the more difficult by our poor form but I’m relatively optimistic. What have we got to lose? Pride perhaps and nothing more. Lazio must answer the battle cry tomorrow and in doing so ruin Milan’s Scudetto prospects. That’s easier said than done of course but let’s get behind our boys. Forza Lazio! Non Mollare Mai!

Let`s hope that Kaka and Pato will not use their speed against Siviglia…I think that Milan has bigger problems then us with their defence,Snederos and Favalli will play in the center if no one gets better,am i wright? And also,is Beckham playing?I heard something about an injury…

I heard nothing on the Becks front and I’ve been keeping an eye on the Milan websites all day. I’ll follow that one up though Mitar.
Favalli and Senderos will play in the centre if Bonera is still unwell tomorrow, that’s correct.

Just to clarify the Becks situation.
Ancelotti said earlier in the week (not exactly sure when) that Beckham had a thigh problem that could keep him out of tomorrow’s game. He also said that Gattuso, Nesta and Borriello could be fit to play.
However, the AC Milan website says that Gattuso, Nesta and Borriello have been left out of Ancelotti’s 21 man squad and thus won’t take part. On the other hand, Beckham was included which means that I would expect him to play tomorrow.
Of course, that doesn’t mean he is fully fit.

becks it’s not the problem our defence is the problem if they play just a littel bit better then i think we can beat milan and as i said muslera is the fear.I remeber last year and pray that it’s not gonna happen again
P.S.science when zaccheroni was a manager i have never been so depressed, rossi is a great manager i agree with cathal but something is definitley is wrong and it’s not good but hey in good or bad we are all lazialePosted from

Very interesting to see Matuzalem in the first eleven finally…And is Dabo playing with him and Ledesma?

If Brocchi is 100% fit then he should start ahead fo Dabo. That place is still uncertain.
Here’s the squad Rossi called up:
5) Brocchi, 1) Carrizo,
Matuzalem, 22) Rozehnal, 32) Radu, 25) Cribari, 6) Dabo, 29) De Silvestri, 87) Diakitè, 3) Kolarov, 24) Ledesma, 11) Mauri, 68)Manfredini, 21) Inzaghi, 86) Muslera, 90)Mendicino, 19) Pandev, 13) Siviglia, 10) ZaratePosted from

@ Samson: and you guys know how to go to Reggio Calabria, play the bottom side in the league and drop points…unlike the first team of Rome.
did you ever ask yourself Samson…what is the point? You would struggle to outwit a goldfish (no offence to Reggina fans or goldfish).

Great first half, but then – system down.I think that Delio has reached his limit at Lazio,it`s time for a new coach,he can`t get anything new from this squad, and the defence is playing just worst and worst.

I also think that Delio has reached his limit at Lazio. He is a good coach and I respect him and I am also thankfull for everything he has done for our team. But as Bob Dylan said “Times they are a changing” so he is no longer the right guy for us. We need some kind of refresh, something new that will give boost to the players. 90 % of them are great individuals and if they manage to play as one then we have the winning combination and that is the thing Delio can not do right now. For Lazio with love from Macedonia . FORZA LAZIO
