Siena – Lazio
By: cathal | April 4th, 2009All rejoice as the international break ends and Serie A resumes. As much as I enjoy a bunch of nations fighting it out against one another, nothing compares to watching a schizophrenic Lazio take on a solid, decent, if fairly unspectacular side. I almost forgot league soccer even existed but I’m back in the correct frame of mind and looking at this as the ideal warm-up for Rioma.

I would never call myself a gambling man but I just happened to end up at the bookmakers today and perhaps it’s just a personal problem but I seriously detest the fact that Siena are favourites to win this game. I know they are a good side playing at home with a superb coach but is our chaotic descent that bad? Really? Forget harsh statements, Lotito should drag our boys down to the betting shop and force them to put thousands of euros on an away win. That would get a reaction.

I haven’t a clue who Delio intends to play tomorrow because I am not sure what two weeks of free time does the man’s head. Thankfully Lazialita have been watching everything more closely than I have. Muslera is set to start in goal because he didn’t concede six goals midweek. Therefore, Carrizo must brave the bad and the worse and sit on the bench. Rossi will porbably revert to his favoured back four of Kolarov, Cribari, Siviglia and Lichtsteiner now that they are all available for selection. Foggia and Pandev are being kept for the derby (I think the latter is a yellow card away from suspension) and Brocchi is injured so Rossi will reshuffle the pack. Meghni and Mauri are expected to be in the midfield along with Ledesma and Matuzalem. Rocchi and Zarate start in attack. This is the probable line-up:
Lazio (4-3-1-2): Muslera, Kolarov, Cribari, Siviglia, Lichtsteiner, Meghni, Ledesma, Matuzalem, Mauri, Zarate, Rocchi.

I expect Giampaolo to implement his usual 4-3-1-2 formation which leads me to believe this will be a battle between players rather than coaches and their tactics. It’s a tough game to predict, hence I kept my money in my pocket when I was at the bookmakers. However, if we want to have any sort of confidence going into the derby, we need a win. Can we do it? I reckon we can. Our frontmen bagged three past them earlier in the season so we should be able to capitalise on any nerves they may have. Forza Lazio!
Previous Encounter: Lazio 3-0 Siena (Zarate, 58, Rocchi, 85, 93)
Last Season: Siena 1-1 Lazio (Pandev, 23, Maccarone, 31)

Ok, as I’m sure you all know, it’s the derby next weekend. This is my first time having to cover this game on my own so I want to spice things up a little. Let me fill you in.
It was my original intention to go to the game but due to poor finances, that backfired. The next idea was to cover the game live on the blog. That may also be out the window now but I am not certain. For the timebeing, the best I can do is ensure the build up here on the blog is perfect. This is where I need your help.
I am now announcing next week “Fan’s Week” and I hope for as much participation as possible. As some of you may or may not know, Rioma fans like to come over here and cause a scene prior to the Derby. That’s fine, let them, what I aim to see is full support for Lazio on this blog. Let’s not stray over to the rival site. Why? Because they fear us over there and it’s much funnier to watch these fans fight among themselves over how they should treat us.
So, to show some untiy between us, I would appreciate it if you can send me everything and anything you have related to the derby. This includes all forms of media and anything interesting you can find. As always I will do my one research but we can do a much better job as a team than I can on my own.
Also, I promise to reply to any genuine e-mail you wish to send me (this rules out spammers and Rioma fans who are basically the same). Here is my address: cathal.d.mullan@hotmail.com. You can ask me any question related to Lazio you want. If there’s something you are desperate to know the answer to, e-mail me and I’ll do my best to answer it.
Your participation of late has been overwhelming and I’m always keen for you to get involved in any way you can so here is a great opportunity. Forza Lazio! and here’s to a great week ahead

cant believe we lost AGAIN. we need some serious action on the transfer front if we are to do anything next season. i think our dreams of europe are well and truly dead and buried for this season. cant wait to kill some scum next week. if we dont win (we will), i would like to see a fight in which we kick the shit through them. forza lazio!!!!!!

That’s it… enough is enough, Delio Rossi has to go. I am so sick and tired of sticking up for him, that’s it, no more – as far as I’m concered he should be sacked at once.

yeah he definately has to go. i believe a manager should no be at a club for very long and especially when he is finishing so low in hte table. honestly i dont see how it would be different to sack him now and at the end of the season except the new manager would have more time with the team before the transfer window. if rossi is still in charge next season i wont be happy at all

I’m devastated about Macheda, and am also starting to think we should lose Rossi

I have laughed out loud at some of the comments – especially Stef’s comments regarding the derby.
It does seem that Delio Rossi has lost the ability to get this team motivated or playing well. The derby needs no motivation. Maybe we do need to change the manager. The question is now? – or at end of season.
Poor Muslera showed glimpses of his old form!
Oh deary me.
Come on the ladz.Posted from

Hi guys,
Roma fan reporting here, and looking beyong all the anti-roma comments.
Would just like to share my greviences regarding Macheda, and say that the way English clubs conduct themselves when poaching other scouted talents is hiddeous.
I totally agree with Lotito’s comments and would just like to say it will probably only be a matter of time before us Roma fans feel the same consequences of poaching when David Petrucci steps onto the Old Toilet pitch in that disgusting kit.
Im going to avoid derby talk as tempting as it is, and leave it at that.

MACHEDA IS A TRAITOR, HE CAN STICK HIS DREAM GOAL UP HIS ASS! Man Utd. Are dirty poachers!
I want a foreign coach next year but if we had to settle for an Italian coach i’m all for Mazzari from Sampdoria. If he can keep Cassano in line, he can unify a team that is in dire straights.

Macheda is a stark reminder for everyone of how harsh football can be sometimes. I’m not going to do a post on the guy; he’s old news, very much an ex and our concentration should be focused firmly on next weekend, as difficult as that may be.
