A comfortable win.
By: salvatore | March 9th, 2008No problems today at the Olimpico, where the Aquile were able to sweep aside Livorno, 2-0.
This was exactly the kind of game the team needed on the eve of a very difficult stretch of games. They looked confident, dangerous (particularly off set pieces) and best of all, organized, which says something about Delio considering the amount of suspensions and injuries.
Up front, Bianchi offered just enough of a threat to open up some space for Tommaso Bald-Boa and Goran Pandev, who both slotted home goals. The trouble is that he also blew a couple of chances going for goal instead of passing. On both occasions he could have dished off to Goran, only to fire weakly on goal. The Macedonian didn’t take too kindly to that, and looked frustrated.
Aside from that little lover’s quarrel though, the three-pronged attack seems to be giving the team something they’ve lacked all year, namely, some offense and a touch of creativity. Here’s hoping Delio sticks with it for the next hellish run of matches, even if Mauri starts to cry about the splinters he’s getting riding the pine.
The back four looked sure of itself, and though Rozehnal again failed to make an appearance, Radu continues to play like a champion in the making. He was strong defensively, and even stronger moving forward. In fact, he might have even scored a goal today, as it looked like his second half header crossed the goal line. In any case, he’s going to look great playing alongside De Silvestri and Tuia one day (and likely having to deal with rumors involving a move to Inter Buenos Aires).
So not much to complain about really, except maybe our craptastic midfield. Basically, we need Mutarelli back soon. He’s the only midfielder we have with any heart at all (with no disrespect to Dabo, who’s doing the best he can playing alongside two sleepwalking dead weights).
The highlights:
Now on to Friuli…
