Atalanta 2-1 Lazio
By: Taib | September 24th, 2007What a missed opportunity. With all the other big teams slipping up we could have stole a march on them but we were outdone. Atalanta in form stiker Zampagna scored a brilliant goal in injury time to secure the win for Atalanta. Really does leave a very bitter taste. Especially since we had some decent chances after we had equalised.
At the beginning of the game Atalanta had the better of the play but we soon exerted our class. Mauri should have scored but his volley hit the post. Then Pandev had a good chance but could not get on the end of a good cross. We were having the play and chances but Atalanta scored just before half time with a header from Langella. Great run from Pinto and nice cross.
As expected in the second half we came out and really pushed for the equaliser. On the hour mark Pandev supplied a great cross and Muturelli just tapped it in. Really bad defending from Atalanta I have to say. They were guilty of ball watching. We were on top now but not with any clear cut chances. Atalanta were playing on the counter attack and in the injury time Zampagna chipped the ball over Muslera into an empty net. A real hammer blow. It was a well taken goal. Very nice.
We can not dwell on this defeat for long however and now have got a match at home to Cagliari on Wednesday. Time to welcome back Foggia who recently earned a call to the Italian National Team.
On other news we are rumoured to be intrested in Argentine striker German Denis who has scored 13 goals in 10 appearences for Independiente this Apertura. None of them are penalties. I hope we can sign him. It would be great actually. He has shown some of his talent before but this season is in awesome form.

Lazio started out this way last year as well. Serie A just won’t be as forgiving this year as it was last year though so the squads that are falling behind a little bit here need to start getting results immediately. Atalanta are no mugs though. They’ve always had a great youth system and are smart with their purchases.
Need to get a wing against Cagliari and I believe that should be much of a problem but that’s been the story thus far of the year for Lazio. Even though Napoli lost to them at home, they didn’t impress me much.

Joe: Yeah, we always for some reason or another have a bad start to the season. I have only seen Cagliari against Juventus this season and they played a good match although Juventus defence did play it’s part by being absolutely clueless. Obviously we need a win badly. Then we have got Reggina away on Sunday followed by Real Madrid at home. Going to be be a tough season.
