Coppa: The song remains the same.

By: salvatore | October 1st, 2008

It’s pretty hard to recap a game you didn’t see (you’d have better luck finding a stream in the Atacama desert), but by all accounts, Atalanta proved to be another excuse for the Biancoceleste to show off their good form. Zarate and Foggia continue to inspire, Diakite made a strong case for more playing time, and Simon Inzaghi might have parlayed a ten minute appearance into a more prominent role on the team.

When all was said and done, the Aquile ran off with a 2-0 win, despite the fact that the eternally mediocre Makinwa started up front. As expected, Delio rotated the squad, and aside from the aforementioned, he also gave De Silvestri, Meghni, Manfredini, and um, Muslera, some deserved playing time. All told, our Uruguayan understudy had very little work to do between the sticks, and the result was never really in doubt.

Good news then, even if like me, you’re not much of a Coppa Italia fan. Yes, a trophy is a trophy, and yes, it is a back door into European competition, but I’d much rather the team focused on Serie A, and gaining a Euro spot the old fashioned way. Of course, this may be a bit of a moot point, as Lazio’s next Coppa opponent is Milan. The same Milan we can’t seem to beat. Like ever.

Anyway, one game at a time, and for now, the team’s on a serious roll.

Some pics from the tussle with Atalanta:

The first goal scored by Ledesma:

And the second, featuring some nice build up play, and a great assist from Inzaghi:

Avanti Lazio.

Congrats to Lazio for a great start to the season and for showing up in every game. You are definitely playing the better brand of football in the city of Rome.

A very solid performance from the mixed Lazio eleven. We were perfect in the defence, scored two against a very strong squad, especially in the defence.Makinwa was bad again(for me),and Diakite was very secure. If Milan doesn`t put their stars in the first eleven,we must attack them.

Nate, he should be on the bench this Sat against Lecce. Chances are he may come on for the last 10-15 mins.

Yep, what Franco said. He’s back training with the team, and could have been picked for the game against Atalanta, but Delio decided against it. If we’re up by a couple of goals, I think we’ll see him.

I must congratulate to all players, but Pandev is leader to our team and I`m proud that he is from my country. Bravo Goran

Don’t worry Dane, we won’t hold the USA tag against you. Anyway, it turns out that Rocchi won’t be available for tomorrow. He has a case of Tonsillitis.
