Lucky
By: salvatore | November 23rd, 2008The boys in biancoceleste were lucky to get a point today, though in regards to luck, this post could have been called, “to have and have not,”. We were lucky that a seemingly good Genoa goal was called off, and that the consistently dangerous Diego Milito missed a (generously given) penalty. We were unlucky not to make more of our chances, and because we have Delio Rossi pulling the strings.
I’ve always been a Delio supporter, but lately, I have no idea what’s happening with him. Just a few short weeks ago he seemed to have a handle on this team, but suddenly he seems completely lost. Midfields and backlines seem to be changing from game to game, which can hardly be a boon to chemistry and individual confidence, and worst of all, the same problems fail to be addressed (ahem link-up play). On top of that is the handling of Rocchi’s “benching” (and the subsequent re-naming of a temporary captain – Pandev), which may also cause problems down the road.
Not to mention what Tommaso’s first half exclusion says about the trident, which, let’s not forget, Rossi decided to debut in the derby. If he had doubts about whether it would work, why did he try to force it in last week? And why didn’t he give the boys more time to work it out against Genoa? Hard to say, but the team looked lost and without shape for much of the match today, and once again, would have dropped points were it not for the individual brilliance of a few select players.
Drawing at home is always frustrating (even if Genoa are a good team – Palladino and Milito are both sick), but there are always positives to build on. Zarate, Foggia and Dabo instantly come to mind, with the latter providing the equalizer with a great dagger of a strike that Genoa keeper Rubinho failed to hold onto. The Z-Kid, as always, was an inspired performer, but he can’t do it alone. Goran and Balboa need to help pick up some of the slack, but most of all Delio’s got to figure out a formation and group that works, and he needs to stick to it. I see a lot of problems ahead if he can’t point the way forward.
Avanti Lazio.

Rossi seems out of his depth. He is a decent coach who can get “lesser” teams to perform well. However he is not a big manager who can take this club places.
The formations, line-ups and tactics all change on a week to week basis. He obviously does not know his strongest team, he does not get the best out of his players and makes some truly mystifying decisions. Lotito (vattene) needs to replace him with someone who can take this club places. Yes, this is not a scudetto winning club, but neither is it draw with Genoa club.
I always liked Delio and it can’t be easy working with vattene but he still needs to go.

Sorry Kds, its ok to want a new manager. I did too on sunday afternoon, infact I wanted to have the Genoa manager who looks a class act. But let’s not get carried away emotionally and start demanding a new manager.
1) In the past Delio Rossi has shown very good tactical awareness
2) Good managers have bad patches, just like players
3) The successful teams, historically, do not chop and change their managers, especially under bad times eg. milan and juve this season and in the past.
4) A new manager would take at least a year to get things going in his style and to get used to the players at his disposal etc etc.
No, I want to stick to Delio for as long as possible.
Forza Delio
Forza Lazio
