A Bad Day At The Office
By: cathal | September 17th, 2009Inexplicable, inexcusable and downright intolerable. There is not much you can say about a performance like that. You are on a big stage, a great opportunity lies in front of you to show the rest of Europe what you are all about and you blow it in spectacular fashion. Losing is always difficult to take but losing what was probably your easiest game in the competition is inpossible to swallow. To make matters worse, the mistakes came from the players included in Ballardini’s rotation policy and from that shaky defense that the president refused to invest in. To criticise them both would be easy, in fact, it is probably deserved but the whole performance was downright lackadaisical and at this level, if you give any team a chance, they will punish you. It is that simple.

I can understand the first mistake. The ball gets propelled into the air, Diakite’ finds himself in a 50/50 with the attacker and Bizzarri sees an easy catch. The problem is, when your goalkeeper and your defender don’t play together regularly, there is always a chance of miscommunication occurring and that’s exactly what happened. Both of them could have dealt with it individually but collectively, they didn’t and it’s just our luck that it lands at the feet of the opposition. On another day, you get away with that but on another day, those things don’t happen. As for the second goal, if any of you know what Cribari was thinking, please send your answer on the back of a postcard. I can’t for the life of me work out what he was attempting to do. There is a big lesson to be learned here; I just hope the players get a rollicking from the coach and take it on board.

On to Catania we go and I want a reaction. Nothing less than a win will suffice. Don’t get me wrong, I know it is a tough away trip and I know not many teams go there expecting to go back home with three points but after the shambles that was tonight, I demand it. There is a lot of soul-searching to be done and I want vengeance on the pitch and not in the dressing room. We are better than this and deserve much better than this. Forza Lazio!

Cathal I think you have been far too critical of Lazio
I saw the game too and what i saw was an organised, disciplined lazio whose weakpoint was creation of attacking opportunities. We played quite well, and I think we were very unlucky. The two slazburg goals were blatant defensive (individual) errors and these things happen in life.
As for Cribari, it was an awkward bounce and shit happens.
We all make mistakes. I feel for the guy.All in all our defense was actually very well organised and we restricted a very organised side and had good ball possession.
I still like the new Lazio
better luck next time.Posted from

cribari…OUT. ive never liked him and i feel all he does is foul, but now he’s gone even worse. janko’s goal was the most ridiculous i’ve ever seen! i couldnt believe it last night. even if salzburg had tied us it would have been robbed…but the fact they got 3 points after a lame performance makes me so bitter.
we need to batter levski in our next match, for credibility, and to get ourselves in a good position in the table. i wouldnt mind a win against catania either.

Although I understand what you’re saying Omar, having watched Red Bull in Champions League qualifying, the possibility was there to beat them by a margin of 3 of 4 goals.
If a local, part-time side in my homeland can draw with them in Austria, then the Italian cup winners should be able to destroy them at home. Let’s face it, Red Bull were poor.
I do agree with a lot of what you’re saying; individual errors aside, our defensive half were good and on the basis of these mistakes, I wouldn’t jump the gun and ask for Cribari to be ousted but I do believe we should still have been in a position to make mistakes like that and win the game and that’s why I am incredibly disappointed with the players as our coach is too.

“Intervioewed by lalaziosiamonoi.it, Lazio goalkeper Fernando Muslera’s agent has declared: “We have talked with Lazio a few days ago, they know that he loves the club and his fans, and that he is happy in Rome, but now we are waiting for a sign from the club. Manchester and Arsenal are tracking him? Yes, I can confirm it, but I don’t know if these clubs have already talked with Lazio. I think that chairman Lotito must hurry up to renew Fernando’s contract, so that he will avoid difficult situations. I must defend my client’s interest and if there will be no answer from Lazio the player will leave. His contract will expire in 2012, but if the situation won’t change we will have to start to look around. In life your job, and in this case playing football, is important, but the financial situation too. But in any case I am sure that Lazio will contact us soon”.
WILL IT EVER STOP!?

I thought the pairing of Cribari and Diakite was very successful and probably should be our #1 option going forward. Cribari made a big mistake but the game was not lost on that. To call for his ouster is just plain stupid, not in the best interests of the team.

We’ve already made that mistake once with the guy and despite this mistake and the criticism he has come under, I have to agree with you full.tilt.
As for Muslera, Lotito will need to keep him to keep the fans happy. Unless, of course, a rather large sum of money comes our way.

guys, dont be so patronizing to me…ive harbored this opinion for a while. he’s gotten plenty red cards during his time at the olimpico. im not fickle enough to call for his head after one game, i have wanted him out for a while, because in my opinion he is, at best, average.
hate on me all you want but everyone has a right to their own opinion, and i feel like i know lazio pretty well seeing as i actually LIVED in rome. so guys, dont assume im stupid and that i dont know anything

Hey kabir, I don’t think anyone’s ‘hating on you’ or at least I’m not. As you said, each is entitled to his or her opinion and I wouldn’t for a second insinuate otherwise.
My comments were more a reply to Omar who mentioned me directly. I am sorry if you misinterpreted it; I certainly wasn’t patronising you.

alright sorry, i guess i did come off sounding a bit hostile, but after that match, i truly needed to rant a bit.

I’m just now getting a chance to check back on this. I certainly didn’t mean anything negative towards you, kabir. I had been reading a lot of comments on another message board and then was here so I was being very general in my reaction to the comments after the game.
And you wouldn’t be the only one that doesn’t like Cribari!
