Drawing Blanks
By: cathal | November 2nd, 2009Laziali across the world demanded a response yesterday and found nothing. We may have picked up a point against our mercurial foes in Siena but it does little to relieve the pressure, strain and just about everything else that makes it difficult to get out of bed these mornings (or afternoons if you’ve hit that point). Under normal circumstances, the die-hard statisticians would see this as a point gained rather than two points lost but when your current stats are gloomy to the point where you can barely look yourself straight in the mirror, it is of little consolation.

The key to picking up three points yesterday was keeping Maccarone quiet but our boys, and in particular, Siviglia, made him look like Sammy Eto’o. You can understand nerves at this time and a lack of confidence but when you know the opposition has one threat and (with all respect to the Tuscans) one threat only then you have to keep the danger at bay. Sebastiano was handing Massimo belated birthday presents all day long, one of which ended in a horrendous goal and another should have ended in the dismissal of Muslera, if I’m being honest. From the little I saw, two players derailed our comeback yesterday and of course, one of them would have to be our most experienced centre-back. Good omens for Villarreal. Not.

As for our tactics, I thought we had it spot on prior to the game. Rocchi has been so poor recently, he deserved to be dropped and I thought Cruz would be able to hold the ball up, bring Zarate and Foggia into the game and feed off their scraps. It seems that plan failed and for an attack that many hailed as one of the best in Serie A to be misfiring in all cyclinders is frankly unforgivable. I realise Maurito is suffering from a bad case of second season syndrome, I understand Tommaso is probably past it, I’ve noticed that Julio lacks fitness and I appreciate that Pasquale tends to resemble a lost sheep all too often but surely we can sort this one out at the very least? It’s frightening. We can’t miss Goran that much surely?

Next up; Villarreal. At least we have a table there that we find ourselves in the top half of. Having lost touch with that ridiculous 13 team pack in Serie A, we need to grab something in the Europa League. A single point would put us in a great position; that needs to be the aim. Small steps and perhaps we can escape this mess. Forza Lazio!

What a horror start. Miss a golden opportunity, let in a terrible goal and then have your captain sent off. Baronio was foolish to have his hand near Llorente’s face, but the ref made an extremely harsh decision. For me that is terrible refereeing, hopefully Lazio can somehow weather this storm and find a result

llorente should have a yellow card, its complete bull

Aldo, I agree. How a referee at this level can fall for that garbage is beyond belief. Bollocks indeed

Question is…Does Ballardini avoid the sack after this one. Not that he can really be at fault for today’s result (I’m assuming a Lazio loss)

i think we should pay whatever we have to for mancini! get balardini out of there

See, I read Lazio was looking at Sinisa Mihajlovic.

I heard Mihajlovic (sp) was going to Catania.
I know he played for Lazio, but you would think they would want someone with a little more experience than the Serb. If they can afford him, and if he is even willing (given all the Real and English rumors) I would like to see Mancini take the reigns for the Biancocelesti.

But Mike, Mancio is supposedly on the list for Real Madrid and Liverpool – much more prestigious clubs than Lazio. I think he might wait and see there first.

Are my eyes playing tricks on me??? Did I really just witness Makinwa coming on??? Any manager who puts Makinwa on the bench has no place in our club. Also, why was Baronio captain??? Finally, why didn’t Zarate and Kolarov start??? I dont give a shit who manages us, once they can actually win a game!!! The annoying thing is, we have so many good players, like Zarate, Kolarov, Matuzalem, Lichti, Foggia who would walk into most serie a teams, but Balls-ardini can’t make them work together. The sooner he’s gone, the better. FORZA LAZIO!!!

Yeah Jo, I agree, Real?? or Lazio?? Whats more obvious than a no bariner?? LOL. All the same, I would rather see Mancio stay on the Penninsula, and what better place than Lazio.

Umm we rested players. When your president has put together a crap squad the way Lotito has, things like this happen.
As for Foggia, I don’t think he deserves a starting place at Lazio, let alone other Serie A clubs at the moment. Such an ineffective player.
Our best today was Stefano Mauri. And when Mauri is the only one doing anything, you know you are screwed.
As for Mancini? He wouldn’t want to come back to Lazio for both financial and footballing reasons. Meanwhile, to appoint Mihajlovic or Simeone now would guarantee our relegation. Need someone with experience and balls to save Lazio. How I wish we had taken Mazzarri in the summer.
Balla won’t get sacked anyway. Lotito will never pay the wages of two coaches, not unless he could convince a Bruno Giordano to take on the job for a very low price.

Foggia for MVP!!!

Bruno Giordino?? I’d rather stick with Crapadini thanks

Lotito Vattene (feeling that), I agree with everything you just wrote. Although Zarate was the best player on the pitch (by bloody light years, his dribbling is as good as anyone in the whole world) when he was on, for the rest of the game only Mauri wasn’t awful.
I felt sorry for Perpetuini having to learn the trade in a mess of a game like that but I will say despite doing nothing else he did ping a delight of a first time through ball to Rocchi for the pen which I fucking knew Foggia would miss.
God, if only Foggia had a brain to match his feet. And if his feet could been screwed on properly tonight.
I think the key complaint for Lazio is the squad. It’s awful, bloody awful. Makinwa, Eliseu (I hate him) are genuinely rubbish and Baronio and Mauri (but especially Baronio) are severely limited. Couple that with an out of form Rocchi, Radu, Foggia & Bizzari leaves us with few if any options for rotation or anything else.
Lotito, you have really fucked EVERYONE this time. If Mauro wants to leave at the end of this year I will not blame him but I will kill (for legal purposes I will not kill) Lotito.
This is not a one-off reaction either, this is just a reaction to you having aired our dirty shitty laundry in public to the world instead of just in Serie A were everyone knows you’re a dickhead and that our second string is a joke anyway.
That is the rant that I’ve felt coming for a while and boy did that result bring it out. I truly would not have cared if we lost but to lose in such a disgraceful manner?
P.S. Baronio’s stupid fucking flick was a red card every single time despite Llorente’s pathetic reaction. In the rules that counts as 1)pro foul 2)intent 3)violent conduct. That’s your two yellows right there. Don’t listen to the stupid English commentators, just coz there was barely contact does not change the nature of the foul. What was wrong with the discipline in that match?

why do we get insane bipolar refs all the time??!!?!!/

I still dont understand what is going on with Pandev and Ledesma. How is it helping the club?
Also, doesnt Lazio have a history of freezing players out? I swear there was a bit about it in John Foot’s book but I am just too lazy to go look it up right now.

I would bring the dissidenti back into the mix just to drum up the competition for places again -

Love the comment about bipolar refs
Great timing for the Milan game. I AM serious. We have lost regularly at home to Milan recently. If we lose again then Ballardini will definitely get the sack. I’m not saying that is right but it would happen in my opinion. We will be chomping at the bit!
Forza defeating one of the ugliest teams in the history of football (sorry I hate Milan so much).
