The Perfect Start

By: cathal | August 24th, 2009

You can’t get off to a better start in Serie A. Three points in the bag, a clean sheet to boot and all this with a wafer thin squad. That brings our tally to three wins in three different competitions and there really is nothing to complain about; except for the fact our defence is dodgy, our midfield is sometimes non-existent and our attackers miss easy chances from time to time. In fact, you could argue that there’s nothing right with the team but there is an air of invincibility about us. Didn’t we have that air last season? Hmmm…

You see, there is nothing better in soccer than picking up wins and points when you are not playing well or when your squad is depleted. These two factors tend to go hand-in-hand and although it is our coach who has created this situation, he has rectified the problem. Yesterday was utterly nervewracking but in truth, Atalanta deserved absolutely nothing out of the game. We had a few chances and managed to put away one of them. They had a couple of chances as well but Acquafresca proved me right, thankfully. They could have won the game but they were not clinical enough. We sat back very deep, we were inviting them to try their luck but they couldn’t score. We were in their position many a time last season; it’s nice to turn the tables for once.

That’s how it goes sometimes. We can now give some of our boys a hard earned rest midweek and fingers crossed, we will still stroll through the Europa tie.

There is not much more to say. Check out all the bits and bobs below and over today and tomorrow, I will look ahead to Elfsborg and round up these transfers if or when they happen. Forza Lazio!

Player Ratings: Check Stef’s ratings; maybe slightly inflated due to our win but I can’t disagree with them.

After three victories, some bad news… Lotito just sold off De Silvestri for 5,5 mil eur. A shame, but probably the only way to survive financially?

I agree with Aldo. I think every Lazio fan wanted Lollo to succeed, but every since Lich took his starting spot, the writing was on the wall. He won’t be missed on the field…

I just hope the money made can be spent signing a rock solid Center back. That’s the one thing this team needs more than anything.

Lollo’s personal ambitions outweigh his ambitions for our club. We lose a laziale but it is the best thing for both parties.

We can reinvest the money in a centre back (Canini now in pole position I believe) and we’re covered at right back with Lichtsteiner, Scaloni and a super talent in Faraoni.

Uniform talk: Did anyone else notice that we wore white numbers against Atalanta; black numbers against Elfsborg.

A friend of mine is coming to Rome on September 22 and is looking to try and score two tickets for the Parma match. Does anyone know if they have a contact to purchase tickets for the match?

As always, tickets will probably be available in the official Lazio store in Rome hours before the game. That’s the best advice I can give you.

The club shop is located right near Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore – tix will be readily available for Parma. Do not wait until a few hours before the match though – then they will only be available at the ground’s box office.
