You Win Some, You Lose Some And Sometimes You Draw
By: cathal | September 23rd, 2009Lazio acquired a decent result away to Catania last weekend and with seven points on the board from four games, we can be satisfied with our standing in the table. However, to say it was a good performance would be stretching it and with a potentially problematic and crucial game against Parma looming, vast improvements will be needed.

The reaction of the home fans said it all; their team managed to register their first point of the season in what should have been a tricky home tie and yet they still jeered their boys off the pitch. The truth is, it was a horrible display from the Sicilians and we didn’t play much better, if at all. In saying that, the game was there for the taking and perhaps with more confidence we could have walked out as comfortable winners but let’s not forget that we have failed to beat them on home soil in 33 years and with that in mind, we can rest easy with a point.

The only game that has truly blighted our season is that fixture against Red Bull. If you took that result out of the equation and looked at what we have gained from other ties, you would probably conclude that we have had quite a good start. We are bogged down with the dissidenti, with injuries, with lacklustre performances and with many other niggling issues and if we could rectify just a few of those situations, we could go places. The key now should be to pick up three points at the Olimpico by whatever means are necessary and we can take it from there. Forza Lazio!

Reaction:
“Catania are a side that manage to stay in the top flight on their home form alone. With this in mind, you can see the Massimino is not an easy place to come to and I am happy with the performance of my men.”
“In the first period we managed to spread the ball around well and even after the break we came out with a positive approach. Towards the end we suffered a little but that was understandable given the number of minutes we have played in recent weeks.” – Davide Ballardini

Player Ratings: It was a pretty difficult game to rate, mainly due to the fact that our side were represented by long, thin blobs of yellow on my screen. From what I could make out, nobody stood out as such although I would give honourable mentions to Kolarov, Foggia and Cruz as they were the only ones to make any real impact from an attacking perspective. The defence was atrocious as usual and still needs work.

I don’t normally like to use profanties but in this case; FUCKING PATHETIC. What the Fuck is Ballardini thinking? What the Fuck was Kolarov / Siviglia and Diakite thinking? Fucking terrible… I am so fucking disgusted right now.

Sorry for no preview; I was contemplating the idea of a liveblog (for me, we were never going to win this game) but I got held up for 2 hours in a meeting.
In-depth preview tomorrow guys by way of compensation.

A lot of people are blaming Ballardini. I really think this is harsh. Let’s be honest, with the players we have at our disposal, and the number of games we have to play in a short space of time, we simply aren’t good enough.
Forgetting Pandev and Ledesma, cause for me they are just not going to play for us again, I think its high time we brought Stendardo and Firmani back into the fold and gave them their chances. Perpetuini and Faraoni as well need a run, cause the guys who have been starting every game of the year (Lichti, Baronio) are pretty much stuffed.
