An ‘Interview’ With Igli
By: cathal | July 24th, 2009Franco has ran into some unforeseen difficulties (I love how two words can make a situation sound incredibly serious) and can’t post at the minute. The truth is, he is having a problem with his image (not appearance, an actual picture-thing). Once it’s all sorted out, the latest player profile will be on display. Until then, I have an interview with Tare, courtesy of Lalaziosiamonoi. There are quite a few fishy stories being bandied about and for that reason, I think it’s important that we pay attention to the key figures and ignore the media every once in a while.

Firstly, I should clarify that this is not an actual interview, but rather words taken from Igli’s latest press conference arranged in an interview format. On Ballardini, he said the players were following his lead and the lead of his staff. He emphasised that the coach was prepared and that the squad was enthusiastic. As for the 4-2-3-1 system, Igli essentially indicated that the coach is trying to find a formation that suits our squad but he also pointed out that a month is not long enough for our coach to assess this. There is nothing revelationary in this but the remainder of his speech revealed quite a bit.

Twenty-four players will depart for Beijing and the Albanian was keen to stress that any omissions will not necessarily indicate a potential departure. Tomorrow’s friendly will decide who goes, in essence and Igli seemed to suggest that Pandev will travel; other reports cite a significant breakdown of Goran’s relationship with the club. Igli also hinted at potential departures in the coming days and admitted that we are in talks with Hamburg over Rozehnal. He also confirmed that we are chasing Lugano but he did say other possibilities exist. As for new midfielders or forwards, they will not arrive unless others depart. He confirmed Ledesma had expressed a desire to leave as well. The Matuzalem transfer is not yet official but he said only small details are in the way. When asked about Inzaghi’s hint that a Champions League place may be on the cards, Igli said we are among the top seven sides in the league.

That’s just about it. Some interesting comments there; clearly the club have high expectations for this season and it seems fairly certain that players will leave in the near future. However, I am not so sure we are a top seven side yet and with our mercato being directing towards the outs rather than the ins, I’m beginning to sweat slightly. Hopefully we will get going sooner rather than later. Forza Lazio!

this may seem a bit pessimistic but i think we would be lucky to qualify for the europa cup this year. There are a lot of teams who could qualify for it and we are among them. Hopefully we can build on our last season and improve but i dont think we will be in the champions league for a few years, theres a lot of improvments to be made.
having said this we still have to see how Ballardini does, he could improve our consistency, which we didnt have last year, and we could then easily capture a spot for europe. i just cant wait to see what happens and hopefully it will be a good season!!Posted from

Gotta agree with Aldo. Remember last season, 3 games in. Top of the table. Every Laziale was thinking “this is the season”. Come the end of the year though, we only qualified for Europe through the Coppa. 11th place in the Serie A. Another shit season. I would give a fair bit of blame to Delio Rossi though, taking Zarate off for Rocchi in many matches. Starting Siviglia, the worlds shittest defender. Leaving Pandev on when he was absolutely wrecked. I think we need to start buying players if we are to have any chance of getting in to Europe again. I look forward to the next post and player review. FORZA LAZIO!!!!!
