Atalanta-Lazio Preview

Stadio Azzurri d’Italia in Bergamo
The pressure will be on for this match as Lazio need a win to get their season up and running. Atalanta are always good at home so this is going to be really difficult. The only thing really in our favour is that history favours us as Atalanta have not beaten Lazio in the last eleven games and their last victory came in October 1997.
Atalanta away is always hard because they have a very strong support from the fans and ultras. The atmosphere is very tense and intimidating. Their ultras are very much left winged with no friendships that I know of. I would not reccommend going to the match.
Atalanta have to do without centreback Moris Carrozzieri after he was sent off against Fiorentina last week and will be suspended. I think Daniele Capelli will replace him in the centre of defence along side ex-Lazio defender Talamonti. Thomas Manfredini is banned till November for gambling. Atalanta will probably play their usual 4411 formation with the evergreen Cristiano Doni playing just behind Riccardo Zampagna. Pinto and Langella will provide support from the wings.
Atalanta Formation(probable) 4411
Coppola
Rivalta–Talamonti–Capelli–Bellini
Pinto–De Ascentis–Costinha–Langella
Doni
Zampagna
Recent Form:
Reggina 1 – 1 Atalanta
Atalanta 2 – 0 Parma
Fiorentina 2 – 2 Atalanta
Lazio will be without Siviglia. No other worries to be frankly honest. Fitness is an issue since the team has looked lathargic and very turgid. Lazio need Mauri back to full fitness as soon as possible to add some proper creativity to their attacks that has been sorely lacking in previous matches. Lazio will play 4312 with Mauri playing just behind Rocchi and Pandev.
Lazio Formation(probable) 4312
Muslera
Behrami–Stendardo–Cribari–Zauri
Mudingayi–Ledesma–Mutarelli
Mauri
Pandev–Rocchi
Recent Form:
Lazio 2 – 2 Torino
Sampdoria 0 – 0 Lazio
Lazio 0 – 0 Empoli

How have the Argentines, Scaloni & Ledesma, been playing so far this season?

Also, what do you think of the criticisms supporters have made about Lotito? He recently came out and expressed his anger on it all, I think.

-a: Well the team has not really clicked into gear yet and got going so I would say they like the team have not been playing well. We know they can. They will improve. Ladesma last season was the most important player for Lazio and his goal against Roma in the derby was simply amazing.
On a personal note I would like see more Argentines arrive at Lazio. The colours are like second home and it would be great to repeat the formiddible Lazio side of the early 2000 that won the scudetto with great Argentine players such as Veron, Simeone and Almeyda. Special mentions to Crespo and Claudio Lopez too! Hopefully Carrizo will arrive in January when his passport farce is sorted out by then. If not he will arrive definately in the summer. Lazio have plenty of scouts in Argentina so I am hopful of more transfers from there. Preferably from River Plate who have an amazing youth system.

-a: The supporters are just lacking patience and being very fickle. The team has not got any weaker because no one left that was of any significance except for Peruzzi. The team have just had a slow start. The supporters are getting restless and Lotito has never been popular esecially with the Ultras. It is understandable but hopefully a win at Bergamo can change the mood.

It’s a shame what happened to Carrizo; hopefully he’ll have an opportunity to return to Europe. Promising young keeper.
re wobbly start: It’s only a matter of time before the team clicks.
There’s a great River midfielder, Fernando Belluschi, 24 years old. He would be a fantastic addition to their squad. It’s only a matter of time before he makes a move to Europe.

Belluschi would make a good fit. I would be sad as hell to see him leave the Monumental but I realize that with his talent, he deserves to be in Europe.
I still don’t understand why Carrizo was loaned back to River. Ojeda has done a great job for us in goal, and so far he’s only played two games, both loses, and he had a howler of a game yesterday. He’s still a great keeper, but why would Lazio send him to a team where his playing time will be limited. And if he’s River’s choice for the Copa Sudamericana, they’re on thin ice now to advance.

-a: Yeah, it is a shame and it really messed Lazio up in the summer because the club was too preoccupied with sorting out his transfer then going after new targets. It was so frustrating.
I really can not see Belluschi come here. Lazio can not compete financially with the big clubs anymore. Belluschi is rated by the River Plate board to be worth $40 million. That is unrealistic for sure but he is still rated very high. They will not let him go cheaply and other clubs can outbid Lazio anyway. It would be an absolute dream to see Belluschi at Lazio but I honestly can not see it happenning.
Christian: Carrizo was loaned back to River because Lazio did not want him doing nothing. Lazio want Carrizo to get some playing time and River agreed as well because they are short on goalkeepers. I think Carrizo is a bit rusty at the moment from not playing and the whole affair must have taken effect on him. He is a top goalkeeper still however.
