Bah.

By: salvatore | October 19th, 2008

There’s only one way to describe the mess of a match today…and I think this pic pretty much sums it up:

Three shots on net, three goals, and a whole lot of questions to ask suddenly. Clearly, the international break affected the team’s momentum, but Delio has to seriously wonder if Siviglia should be playing. Two of the three goals were directly attributable to some incredibly lax defending by Sebastiano, and his underwhelming performance throughout made Di Vaio actually look dangerous (something he hasn’t been in years). With Rozehnal and Radu sitting on the bench, you have to wonder why Delio keeps going with Siviglia. Experience is a good thing, surely, but performances like this can’t continue to happen.

Equally disastrous was Rossi’s decision to go with three defensive midfielders, with Dabo in particular looking incredibly sloppy and rusty in his return. There was simply no link-up between the midfield and the forwards, which made our lack of a clearcut target-man very apparent. Rocchi scored on his return, which is great, but as he came on for the Zarate Kid, the much touted trident was not given a go. Will it work? Who the hell knows.

Here’s hoping this crap is sorted out before a real tough test again Napoli next week.

Awful result. There were few positives but there were some nonetheless. I thought Brocchi had a good game in particular and with the exception of Siviglia, I think the defence did an ok job. Cribari handled Di Vaio well in the second half I thought and Lichtsteiner was quite solid, although Bologna took advantage of his physicality. Kolarov is such a threat but his defending still leaves a lot to be desired. Was also good to see Rocchi back in the side and grabbing a goal.

Negatives? Siviglia was a disaster and could be held accountable for all three Bologna goals. Dabo looked off, Ledesma looked confused and Pandev just was not with it at all. Foggia, I also believe, was targeted, bullied and nullified and this really hurt our link up play but without Foggia, we would be lost. So difficult decisions for Rossi now, things need to be addressed and changes need to be made. The big question is, will he make the correct changes?

I agree about Brocchi Cathal, he was probably our best player on the day…and yeah, Cribari had a strong second half. But Siviglia needs to be rested, and fast.

I think our main problem is concentration early on. We seem to concede early goals (somebody should look at the minutes of goals – I’m too lazy and bloody pissed off). When we are playing away and are under intense pressure, we don’t slow the game down and try to slow the pace. Our defence will be our weakpoint this season, and we need to try to change the pace of games we cannot control too well, especially early.

Yes the midfield was too defensive, Siviglia was poor, Carrizo was also quite poor and Pandev was doing his irritating Inzaghi style frigging falling over every time an opportunity came. I am sick and tired of his falling over. Somebody needs to tell him to tighten the hell up. Maybe it was because we were lacking a target man as Salavatore says and Pandev was getting pissed off. Zarate was quite bright during his time on the pitch. Foggia nullified.

We need to CONCENTRATE, SLOW THE GODDAMN PACE IF WE LOOK SHAKY, and stop falling over Pandev!

My verdict on Kolarov is that he is not being used properly – the guy is a talent and needs to be used to his full potential. I don’t give a toss if he can’t defend, he should be allowed to roam and the team accomodate him. Maybe with time he will develop the awesome defensive ability that Mihajlovic showed in a similar role, but until then, let him attack, cross and bloody shoot.
