Bizzarri Decision Making
By: cathal | June 10th, 2009Ex-Catania stopper, Albano Bizzarri has declared to the media that he is now a Lazio player and while we await on official confirmation of this, many of us will attempt to fathom out why Lotito has signed a fifth goalkeeper.

A fifth goalkeeper? Yes, it may sound strange but the 31 year-old Argentine now joins Muslera, Carrizo, Berni (who has returned to us after a season at Salernitana) and Primavera prospect Degre in the goalkeeping ranks. Presumably, Claudio wants to claw back some of the 21million he spent on Zarate. That is understandable but in the meantime, he is paying the salary of five goalkeepers so that does beg the question; is a departure imminent? If so, who is leaving us? You would think JP holds the most value but does he deserve a second chance in the side? Was Nando’s performances a fluke last season? Will we loan out Degre and give him some experience or will we sell Berni for a decent sum? These are questions that our president must find the correct answers to. In all honesty, I’m delighted with this deal; Albano was one of the best ‘keepers in Serie A last season and he brings a wealth of experience to the side. Not only that, but he has arrived on a free transfer which is fantastic for our bank balance. However, I am concerned as to what the next plan of action is because believe me, there must be one in place.

I think what will confuse most fans is the decision to sign players while our club remains without a coach. At first glance, I agree with the majority, this does seem ridiculously foolish but my theory behind it all is simple; Claudio may be trying to rid the club of players he disapproves of before bringing in a new manager. A new coach will come in and immediately set out his stall, deciding how he wants to play, who he wants to play and what he wants to change; this we know. However, what a new coach can’t decipher on the spot is player personalities and attitudes. In a sense, this is Lotito’s opportunity to be manager. In saying that, I don’t believe he will hog the limelight for too long. The newcomer will have to decide if he can work with the individuals Delio couldn’t handle; Stendardo and Zauri are the guys who immediately spring to mind. Also, Claudio may need a new coach to convince the Rossi favourites to stay; Ledesma and Pandev come to mind here. The permanancy of Maurito’s contract and Foggia’s new contract extension gives a strong indication to us that there are certain players our president will fight tooth and nail to hold on to.

A Delio-free Lazio is a scenario Lotito will have thought out many times in his head and I fully expect him to follow the gameplan where possible. I am also certain there is a coach lined up for us. I guess we can only wait on that one. Forza Lazio!

Nice, I’m very happy with the Bizzari move, I really hope Carrizo is the one who is sold. We really need Ledesma to stay and I hope the new coach can cope with Stendardo since I always thought he had potential. I really hope Tuia and Diakite play a lot more in the new season with whoever our new coach is.

Ballardini may well be imminent and could be announced tomorrow.

I think we’re facing one very sad and wanna-leave-as-soon-as-possible goalkeeper. Who will it be? Muslera or Ballardini? They both have the quality but there’s place for only one to be constantly between the posts…I honestly hope they don’t put Muslera back on the bench….
Oh and yes, there’s a rumor Arsenal have offered 20 M euros for Pandev. I hope this becomes more than a rumor, because obviously the guy wants to go, and there’s no point in crying for him…I really think this could happen because Arsenal are in need of a good attacker(Eduardo is always injured,Bendtner is not a player at all, Adebayor is a mercenary and a bad one of lately). And that also means those Juve scavengers wont get him…Forza Lazioooooooo!!!

This is excellent.
Two good keepers in Muslera and Bizzarri and two great penalty specialists. I don’t think there are too many keepers in Italy better than these two at saving penalties. Competition is a good thing as well. I’d hope Muslera starts as the no.1 but that’s for the new coach to decide.
Bizzarri has proven himself in Italy against the best so no risk either.

First of all, let me just say how glad I am that Foggia has signed a contract extension with Lazio until 2013. I think he has been (and will be) one of the better players in Lazio’s history just so long as he continues along this path and that the following coach/es to come also give him the right of play, just as he deserves. All in all – Great news!
As for Cathal’s comments in relation “Lotito’s market”, I couldn’t agree with him more. This is the chance for him to hog the lime light for awhile and do whatever HE wants to do with the final intension being that if it comes off he can give us fans the “I told you so” treatment (as he has done with the Zarate purchase). If all fails, then he will just put blame on the new coach he hires. Either way, he wins and never looks like the idiot president. We Laziale all know better than that.
As for the 5 goalkeeper scenario, here is what I believe will happen; Muslera will be Lazio’s Coppa Italia / Europa GK and Bizarri will be the serie A GK (Or vise versa). Degre will come up and take the 3rd choice role and Berni will either loaned out again(more than likely)or sold along with Carrizo (who for me is def on his way out).
What do you guys think??
Forza Lazio!

I think Bizarri is a good keeper, but I’m curious now who’s gonna go: Muslera or Carrizo. If it’s JP, I’m worried we might come to regret it…I think he still might become a great keeper.
