De Silvestri admits he could leave…and more

By: Taib | September 19th, 2007

I am a strong advocate of clubs having home grown players. There is nothing better then seeing a player come through the youth system and making the first team squad. It is rather satisfying and helps the national team. So it is particulary galling to see a very promising player like De Silvestri who came through the youth system go. De Silvestri is the best right back we have got at the moment and he could make that position for many seasons to come. His contract runs out at the end of the season and that means he can negotiate with other clubs in January. A really depressing state of affairs. Come on Lotito, stop being so damn stingy. Sort it out.

De Silvestri

De Silvestri. Out of contract at the end of the season

Not only do we have to contend with that but also with the fact that former Primavera player Frederico Macheda scored on his Manchester United debut in the Under 18s match against Barnsley. Macheda was signed by Manchester United in the summer because Lazio were not able to give him a proffessional contract. Lazio got a next to nothing compensation package while being resigned to losing Frederico. A lot like how they poached Guiseppe Rossi from Parma a couple of years earlier. Seriously, there should be a law against this kind of immoral practice. It is totally disgusting. The Italian FA have to get off their behinds and do something. What is the point of having a youth system if your best prospects are stolen by a Premiership club? What a stupid rule. And then Trevor Brooking has the nerve to name foreigners as the main cause of the English National team having no depth. Anyone sense the irony there…

Other news from today….

I learnt more about gridiron(that is American Football) from this video starring everyone favourite Italian plumber then I did by watching the damn game:

Ahh…now I get it. Sorta.

Here’s hoping for your first win of the season. Some people think there may be a crisis in Lazio, is it true? Hopefully I can catch the game this weekend.

Christian: There is no crisis, just the team has not been performing that well. There is a lack of creativity because our enganche(in Italy such a player is called trequartista)has been injured so Lazio is not scoring many goals and not playing well. We have not lost any match in all competitions yet. You are going to try to watch this match instead of the Roma-Juventus game? That is pretty nice of you I have to admit.
