Derby Team News
By: Pepe | March 12th, 2011
Not long left now, so allow me to briefly update you on how A.S. Roma and more importantly how we will be lining up tomorrow.
Let’s start with the nominal home team; they will be missing Rosi and Brighi through suspension and Cassetti is injured.
A.S. Roma will probably line out like in a 4-2-3-1 composed of these players:
32 Doni; 29 N. Burdisso, 5 Mexes, 4 Juan, 17 Riise; 7 Pizarro, 16 De Rossi; 11 Taddei, 20 Perrotta, 94 Menez; 10 Totti.
Bench: 27 Julio Sergio, 15 Loria, 3 Castellini, 30 Simplicio, 23 Greco, 22 Borriello, 9 Vučinić
On to our lads; unfortunately Dias has definitely lost the battle to play tomorrow, he will be greatly missed so let’s hope Stendardo can satisfactorily fill his ample boots. The rest of the line-up bares no surprises at all, unless you include the happy news that sees both Mauri and Brocchi return to fitness, or at least the substitutes bench.
We will be matching the oppositions’ formation in a 4-2-3-1 which will likely see a fair few individual battles.
86 Muslera; 2 Lichtsteiner, 13 Stendardo, 20 Biava, 26 Radu; 24 Ledesma, 11 Matuzalém; 77 Sculli, 8 Hernanes, 10 Zárate; 22 Floccari.
Bench: 12 Berni, 5 Scaloni, 14 Garrido, 32 Brocchi, 6 Mauri, 15 Gonzalez, 18 Kozák.

The appearance of Taddei will most likely be on A.S. Roma’s left where he’ll be asked to follow Lichti up and down the pitch leaving Radu to busy himself with quieting Menez. Totti is playing centre-forward on paper but as we know he drifts and it’ll fall to either Matuzalem or Ledesma to pick him up when he comes deep to play the ball. Such a tactic tends to remove focus from the centre backs therefore they frequently leave their position to follow their man, this job should be left to Biava and Willy should stick, stay in position and don’t overcomplicate things. We all know what we expect of our forwards tomorrow, especially a certain Argentine, however some timely intervention from the prophet wouldn’t go amiss either. Lastly as much as I love Mauri, I would rather he doesn’t feature tomorrow if he starts on the bench; bringing him on means we’re not performing as we had hoped, let’s hope we bring Brocchi on as it’ll mean we’re shoring up a good position.
Anyway, I’m very excited and I’m looking for a good clean fight.

Very bad game against Villareal. I was dissapointed by the performance of Ledesma and Scaloni. Hernanes and Mauri was invisible, just like Klose and Cisse, they showed class in a few moments, but they weren’t provided by useful balls. Biava and Scaloni was hammered by fast attacks of Rossi and Cani. Marchetti showed some insecurity a few times. I am most concerned that Lazio didn’t make one decent action, a few chances that we had was outcome of their mistakes. I still miss Licht and yet still I wonder why we didn’t increase sallary of Muslera.

We were fucking awful last night.
Marchetti was shit (not that im surprised), Hernanes and Mauri hardly saw the ball, although were good when they did (our goal was all Hernanes work), Klose did nothing, but in all fairness he didnt get the service.
Hes not the sort of player to track back and get the ball, he just feeds off the service.
Cisse was shit, his runs were poor, passes were poor, and just shot even if he was too far away or could pass. Then the one chance he gets to go through on goal, he gives up instead of jostling for the ball.
Nice finish from him, but that doesnt take away from 89 minutes of crap.Scaloni looked insecure, hope Konko is better.
For the most part though, I blame Reja. Needlessly splitting the team in 2, we needed players like Zarate and Rocchi who were playing Reggina, not wastes of space like Cisse.
Also, why try a 442, which we havnt used in training, or in friendlies at all, so why try and force that upon the players the one time we come across a good team?!Only good thing to take away was that the shirts look really nice!

guys its only a friendly,we have to remember the spanish league is much faster than seria a,and they are a few weeks ahead of us in pre season training,am not surprised that ledesma played shit, wish he would fuck off, dont think marchetti was to blame for any of the goals,we will be ok for the new season, klose and cisse will get us goals for sure.as for the new strips they look awesome, got the home and the white away ones.

You see the first goal right? No keeper worth his salt should be beaten that easily at the near post.
In my eyes the only one he couldnt do anything about was the third.
Just read that Reja is returning to the 4312 and understands the importance of Hernanes and Zarate together. Which is a good thing.

-

Where did you read that Martin?..True we need Zarate and Hernanes

-

cant remember the title of the article, it was in the middle of one of them.
A good sign though, said he was sorry to leave Zarate with the “b” team, but was necessary in order to rotate everyone.

Alright guys, got a question. Anyone know if it’s still necessary to have a tessera del tifoso for the derby where riomma are the ‘home’ team? The first ones coming a bit too quickly so need to look at chances of getting to the second…

-

Oh, and any info about season tickets, where to buy/kind of price? The official site is useless, as usual..

-

http://www.sslazio.it/biglietteria-a-stadio/campagna-abbonamenti-20112012.html
its all on there. €220 for Curva, €500 for Tevere, and tells you where/how to buy.
As for the tessera dek tifoso, not sure, I would assume yes as the whole point of it was to stop trouble, and Lazio would be the designated away team.
You need one to buy a season ticket anyway.

We got Rabotnički in the last qualifying round, not the weakest team, but we should eliminate them easily.

This is not possible. I’m from Macedonia and I’m a fan of Lazio since I was 10 years old, and now that Lazio for the first time plays in Macedonia, I can’t go on the match since I’m in Germany. Crap.
Knowing well the Macedonian league I can tell you that Rabotnicki has no chance against Lazio.

Well we are into the heavy throws of training and 3 weeks away from the mercato close.
As I told everyone weeks ago, the moment these players were bought, we would have problems replacing those dearly departed….
1: Stated Lulic would be a sub and indeed that looks to be the case. Poor signing.
2: Stated Cana would at best possibly beat out Brocchi and that still is not the case. Currently he is a sub. Poor signing.
3: Stanc – pure backup to our back four and showing his age with injuries already. Cheap insurance policy.
4: Konko – should be the heir to Litch (who he will never replace) but his injury trouble continues to show. I would have chosen Cassani from Palermo any day of the week.
5: Klose – showing good ability to play as the lone striker in a 4-2-3-1. Has shown ability to also send through nice passes (Brocchi goal). On a free, he is worth the risk.
6: Cisse, will be Klose’s replacement in a 4-2-3-1 but most likely will play in a wide role and capitize on his speed. Provided he can be flexible should give us some added firepower.
7: Marchetti – still needs to regain confidence and form. Makes some good saves but looses concentration on easy goals like (G Rossi) against Villereal. Too early to tell if he will be able to fill Nando’s shoes. What I see as the biggest concerns to date (other than selling/loaning off a 1/2 dozen players like Kozak, Floccari, Sculli, Foggia, Matuz, Stendardo…),is:
A – finding a balance that will allow us to utilize Zarate (if that is on the wing so be it…)
B – link up play between the holding mids and the attack. It seems way too predictable still and heavily reliant on a masterful move by Zarate, Hernanes or Cisse to unlock defenses. We need our fullbacks to get more creative but not so mechanical as last year where we were able to get to the opponent’s box multiple times only to have our attack sputter. Not sure another attack minded midfielder will make the difference but we will see.
As for defence would love to see Kjaer from Wolfsburg but unlikely to happen unless Floccari changes his mind.
Europa Cup draw was favorable to us. We will see what happens after that in the group round.
Overall Mercato = 5/10. If we loose another champion like Zarate, the score will plummet further…

Agree with pretty much all of that.
Lulic is good, he showed last night hes a decent player, but he will be back up to Radu as I stated when he was signed.
Same goes for Stankevicious, will be back up for whoever happens to be injured/suspended, but he seems alright so its not a terrible signing.I firmly believe we only bought Cana cos Tare is a fellow Albanian and has a hardon for him, he wont be starting 11, and in fact I can see Brocchi being above him in the pecking order (and rightly so)
Klose I have changed my view of, I saw him as a gamble, old and in poor form, but he has been sharp and his finishing is good, I can see him doing well.
Cisse I didnt want, and still dont. Hes greedy, shoots from miles away at every chance, even if he should pass, and I just cant see doing well for us.

hey guys, i think we should give the team more time so we can judge on the new signings…cisse and klose are for now the best purchases…i disagree with you guys ..we need someone with his physical attributes…he’s a monster upfront ..i dont know why the hell you guys keep criticizing him. look at the goal he scored yesterday from a corner, magnificient jump !! never saw a lazio shirt flying so high !! ..give the man a chnace…i think reja should find a formula asap to play mauri, hernanes, zarate, cisse and close …play hernanes his natural game in central midfield as a playmaker not attacking midfield..and imploy 3 creative men behind the striker…with one solid defensive mid.
i would LOVE to see Kjaer in lazio shirt but i think we are done getting players..it’s time to offload ..what about floccari, why is he related to the signing of kjaer ?swap ? i think we need someone tense in defense biava is so old ….
about cana give him sometime ..he is a warrior and he knows he’s not doing well now…
hope this year will be full of good performance and results

Robert,
I was not sour on Cisse. I stated he would be a great asset on the wing and utilize his speed to open up channels for Klose.I agree with you. Would love to see mauri, hernanes, zarate, klose and cisse all together but it will never happen. Zio Edy is a ‘play it safe 1st’ type of guy and will not open up to what you have in mind.

I was going to go to the first game, but I forgot its a bank holiday in the Uk so flights were about £200 which is ridiculous since ive never paid more than £60 return!
So I might go to the next home game instead, and im going to the 2 home games in a row against Juve and Novara in November.
