Farewell For Now Fabio!
By: cathal | February 5th, 2009The big story of the last day or so was the loan deal that sees Firmani move to Dubai-based side, Al Wasl. It is undoubtedly a worrying move for us Lazio fans. Fabio has more heart than any of our other squad members and losing a player with that passion and emotion is soul destroying in our current slump. Nevertheless, I can see the reasoning behind the decision. Fabs has been plagued with injuries all season and it will do him good to go to a less competitive league and establish some game time. He seems convinced that his Lazio career is not over and I hope he is right.
Juventus will be our opponents in the semi-final of the Coppa Italia. Although many were hoping for what was, on paper, an easier tie in the form of Napoli, I was rooting for the Old Lady. I believe Napoli will struggle to make the top six this season and with Juve going through, that means a potential semi loss opens up seventh place for UEFA Cup Qualification. Of course, as long as we reach the final and Inter do likewise, we are in Europe. The permutations are complicated but they are certainly in our favour. In addition to this, I think we may have a slight psychological advantage in this tie. Scheduling will be pivotal but we have already held our ground against Juve this season and our last win in the cup was a two-legged win over I Bianconeri. Good omens.
All is quiet at the moment, I would like to have more to report on but quite simply, I don’t.

There is no doubt in my mind that Fabio has plenty of heart. I just wish the rest of the squad would have half as much, maybe then we wouldn’t be where we are now.
In all I wish Fabio all the best of luck and a speedy return to form so that he is ready for what will be no doubt a huge 2009/10 season for the Biancoceleste.Grande Fabio e Forza Lazio.

The stupid thing is that Fabio could possibly have had a chance to show his worth in our current situation.
Lazialita’ aside, he’s even a better footballer than ppl give him credit.
I’m still a big Delio fan but each day I become more convinced that he needs to go.
Hoping to see Firmani on the pitch for Lazio next season though. Already made my decision to get a strip with his name on the back.
You can buy Kaka’, Messi and Buffon but you can’t buy that passion for a club.

Nicely said Chris. I recently just bought the latest stip and got Zarate on the back of mine but am now thinking that I should of maybe got De Silvestri instead….

I was going to get De Silvestri on my top last season but when I went to Roma, there weren’t any available in my size so I missed out completely
This year I was going to get his name but he hasn’t had the greatest season so I got Zarate 10.
Definitely in future, Firmani and De Silvestri will be the next 2 kits I buy.

Firmani is a player with plenty of heart and guts, and also occasional exceptional skill. I remember he showed glimpses of quality in a run of matches that included the last-gasp winner against Parma in the Olimpico after the Sandri-affair. He was our in-form player at the time and then I remember he was dropped for some big game, and I was absolutely disgusted (maybe against Roma or someone big). Yes Rossi has made some mistakes, and Firmani it seems was one of them.
