Fed Up

By: cathal | January 17th, 2009

That’s how I’m feeling right now after sifting through all the latest speculation.

The longer this mercato goes on, the more depressed I become. It’s not because I despise our team and want a bunch of new faces or even that I think we desperately need some young blood, it’s quite simply the fact that in the wake of all the rumours, I expected someone or even something to be drafted in. However, we are halfway through (yes, only halfway) the mercato and the odds of us making an acquisition needs to be slashed. Every single rumour that emerges looks to be a big fat pile of garbage.

Here’s one I read: Inzaghi and Makinwa to Chievo in exchange for Bogdani. Could we really be stupid enough to exchange one of our ex-Scudetto winners and a young enough fast guy for Erjon who is in his thirties and can head a ball? With no disrespect to Bogdani, he is not what Lazio needs and I know we need to trim the attack and add a new face or two but that proposal is bordering the ridiculous.

Lotito has confirmed that Veron could arrive in Rome this summer. The transfer can’t be done this winter due to regulations. We would have to sell one of our non-EU players before Juan Seba can come and this is something Claudio is not prepared to do. Although Makinwa is Nigerian and is technically non-EU, he is considered an EU player due to some treaty thing that the EU and African Nations signed a few years back. Therefore, selling Makinwa does not help in bringing in Veron so we can forget it all to June.

As you can see, our chances of bringing anyone in this winter is beginning to slim. Speculation is drying up and rumours are being recycled. I never thought I’d say this but Lotito can go and buy some unknown schoolboy for all I care. I just need another signing!

Preview later.

there are some mistake in Lotito’s words? because team in serie A can buy just two non-EU players per season, and it doesn’t depend from how much we sold. This season we bought Carrizo and Matuzalem. So Veron could arrive only in june:(

we started soo well, we held possession and made chances its too bad pandev didnt make it 2-0 whn we had the chance because we really lost our way soon after we scored…hopefully we will come back on with the same spirit and ability as in the first 20 odd minutes

Great start, but after that Juve took over the game.Diakite played a nice match.Shame for the Foggia chance,he was so close. And again,Zarate pissed me off, when he was substituited…It`s like we can`t win against the `big` teams…Now the Coppa Italia. Are we playing at home?
