Fizzling Out

By: cathal | May 22nd, 2009

It has been a draining season and despite a victory over Reggina which incidentally condemned them to Serie B, Lazio are slowly but surely fizzling out. Only one game remains; another meeting with Juventus and then it’s over, gone, finished. This is my first season of blogging here and I’m becoming somewhat sentimental. It has been a turbulent season to say the least but with all the highs and lows, it has been massively exciting. I guess I’m not the only one who would like to fast forward through the mercato and begin our latest European adventure and Serie A campaign.

The undoubted star of the season delivered the only goal again last night; Mauro Zarate. What is there that hasn’t been said already about this guy? He is fast becoming an icon and I am just waiting and waiting for the official confirmation that he is actually ours. Big games, small games, whatever the occasion, he is often the difference and if he manages to stop having quiet spells in matches next season, we have one of the world’s best on our hands. That is, if he remains. Dabo is another who is impressing these days. Three weeks ago, I would have said his career with us was finished; he looked slow, tired, injured and not up to the task anymore. At the minute, Ousmane is playing like he has found a second wind. That’s pivotal because if we can’t keep a hold of Matuzalem, we will be severely lacking in the centre of the park.

As for the game on the whole, it sounds as if we played well given our obvious lack of motivation and that’s a good thing. Over the course of a season, there will be days where we are just not up for the challenge and if we can grind out results like this on those days, we will be a very good team. One of our huge flaws this season was that we lost games where we just didn’t appear bothered. If we change that, we will change our fortunes. Look below for anything else you want to know about the game and I will be back with a transfer rumours post later. Forza Lazio!

Reaction:

“My future will not only depend on what I want to do, but also what the club wants to do. We will discuss what to do shortly, and what will be the best decision for the club to move forward.”

“We did win the Coppa Italia, and in the championship itself we have played well, but we have failed to play consistently.”

“We have suffered too many defeats that have been costly. We could certainly do better, but there are four teams at this point that are much stronger than all of us.” – Delio Rossi

Cath, Thanks for the wrap up and for the details on the “Zero Tittoli” shirt. Much appreciated.

I am fuming with rage this morning after I have just found out that Juve are basically trying to rape our team. Not only are they after Pandev but De Silvestri and Kolarov too. I hear Juventino day in and day out whinge and moan about Inter buying everyone under the stars but who are they to speak when they are just as bad if not worse??

    Va Fanculo Juve.

Chill Franco, those are just rumours. I doubt we’ll be signing any player from Lazio this summer.

    Who cares about Rioma Bobi!!

Nnahoj, the Pandev transfer is not a rumor. I believe that they have made an official offer for 10 million plus Almiron.

I’ve been sidetracked by another exam but I will get that transfer post done at some point.

Guys, I can tell you for a fact that Pandev is still unsure about his future and has yet to make a decision (call it inside information).

So whether the offer from Juve is true or not I am unsure. All I know is Lotito had a meeting with both Pandev and Rossi yesterday in an attempt to sort out their future.

Watch the papers in the days ahead…

According to Lazialita the 3 hour meeting with Lotito, Pandev and his agent concluded negative where Pandev has said no to the 2 year contract renewal offered(even after having more money thrown at him).

He is 100% leaving us. Our last chance to see him in a Light Blue shirt will be next week against the scavanges (AKA Juventus).

Yes, more money and a buy-out clause was said to be included in the deal. I think the fact that Lazialita says he is leaving, says it all.

I think Goran realises it is time for him to depart and I reckon we should accept that too.

Problem is, with only one year left on his deal and him being a free agent in 7 months, no team will offer us much cash. That’s the reality.

There’s no doubt we want Marchisio as part of any deal but of course, Juve want to offload their garbage (namely, Almiron).

Goran is suspended for the Juve game so he’s not actually going to play for us again.

Lotito needs to (and will) hold fast. Don’t accept Almiron or any other reject. Sell to England or Germany for big bucks and don’t look back.

If there is any president to handle these matters, its Lotito. Hate him all you want but he will never allow himself or the club to get ripped off by such a deal.

Almiron+10million euros? I don’t want Pandev, but that would be a hell of a deal.

I’d rather Kolorov or Lichsteiner though.

I would love 18 million for Pandev. Guys, I love Pandev, but honestly, he didn’t look to be improving much in this and the last season compared to how he was getting better since he joined the team, to the year we qualified for Champions League. Anyways, that Juve deal rumor is terrible and we need an amazing forward to fill his place.

has licht ever said anytihng about his future at the club?? i dont ever remember reading an interview he has done but i hope he stays with us for a long time. him and de silvestri on the right flank could be amazing, especially if de silvestri really works on his positioning when defending.

Remember Goran is left-handed(or footed, anyway),He is like Dejan Savicevic,if you remember him.He can decide the game only with one move, and that is the quality of great players.lol:)
