From David To Goliath
By: cathal | July 30th, 2009Never underestimate the power of 5million euro. While many fans mourn the loss of what most believe to be our best centre-back, it appears Lotito and Tare have been hard at work behind the scenes putting that cash to good use. If you believe the rumours, that sum of money will pay the salary of one Julio Cruz and also obtain the services of young, Swedish centre-back, Rasmus Bengtsson. Confused? Let me try and explain.

Our mercato depends heavily on two conditions; that we replace what we sell and we spend when the money is there. Since we secured Zarate and Matuzalem on long-term deals, the money has not been there. However, Claudio can make 5million go a long-way and I think too many people jumped the gun and were quick to criticise our president. Obviously Rozehnal is a significant loss but in this case, the profit we make on him can acquire an experienced goalscorer and a young talent for the future. That is probably too good an opportunity for Claudio to pass up.

I am genuinely excited about Julio’s supposed arrival. I think he is the missing piece in our attacking jigsaw and if we can keep Pandev, our frontline is impressive. In fact, I think even if Goran departs now, we will still bring in a talented hitman so goals shouldn’t be too hard to find next season. As for Bengtsson, my Swedish friends tell me that he’s no great shakes but for a reported fee of 400,000 euro, we can’t go too far wrong. I am surprised we are considering a defender as Stendardo is more than capable of filling David’s boots but perhaps the Swede’s arrival indicates the departure of another centre-back. Palermo’s resident nutcase, Zamparini has been talking up a potential swap involving Radu and Simplicio and while I believe a move for the Brazilian could still be on the cards, I was initially hoping the young Romanian would not be included. However, Bengtsson cannot be here to replace Rozehnal; as I said, we already have Stenny and Lugano would also be a natural replacement. One would have to think that Rasmus is set to take over from one of our younger centre-backs. Maybe there is something in that swap rumour? Either way, the mercato is hotting up and with David’s departure, Lotito’s wallet could well make the adjustments to help us become a giant once again. Forza Lazio!

Rozehanl was never our best CB. At times he was even our worst, and I much preferred Siviglia-Cribari to him, as well as Diakite’ who can only improve.
These signings are just massive from Lotito. I’d still keep Radu though. Ballardini can bring out the best in him.

very true cristiano i also believe tht ballardini can bring out the best in him but lugano n bengston look like solid center backs and simplico 4 radu i think tht swings 2 our advantage:)

Yeah this seems like a good deal. Great to see Cruz coming in, I agree with cathal. We really need a targetman who is just there to get the ball into the net. Simplicio would be great too, I’m big on radu but I never really though he fit in at Lazio. Besides that I’m even a bigger fan of Diakite so I hope he’ll feature in some more games this season. Stendardo should start imo, he’s such an underappreciated player.
And finally why hasn’t there been any news about the sale of Ledesma and Lollo?

Bengtsson is in Rome, or on his way to sign I believe.
Nothing about Cruz yet but as the squad departs for China tomorrow, I do expect that to be announced if it’s a done deal.
Simplicio/Radu is just a rumour but Bengtsson has to be here to fill someone’s shoes, other than Rozehnal.
Pandev, Ledesma and De Silvestri will not travel to Beijing as far as I understand.

Squad for China will be announced today at 18.00 CET. Its expected that Cruz will go, Bengtsson maybe not. Bengtsson has already visited Formello and Roma to suss the place out. Both players will be official today.
None of the 3 dissidenti will go. Pandev has received another offer from Zenit (14m which is less than before), LDS off to Fiorentina, while Ledesma I’m not sure. Baronio will go to Pechino.
This is all what the news says anyway.

You beat me to it
Yes, it was announced slightly earlier than I expected. No major shocks aside from Stendardo. That is a bit strange but it might explain why we are after Lugano.

Bengtsson will not travel to Beijing because the deal is not done yet.
Despite all the reports claiming that he is officially a laziale, his agent has spoke out and said that this is not the case. Apparently Rasmus was spotted at Amsterdam airport at noon and I believe he is now in Rome discussing terms.
We will have to wait for confirmation on this deal yet but Cruz, is ours.

I absolutely envy your society for bringing Cruz. I believe he is still worth it and will score plenty for you.
If you can keep and motivate Ledesma, you will be a complete team.Posted from
