RIP Gabriele.
Besides being a Laziali and DJ in Rome, what else was his affiliation with the club. Was he an Ultra?? Sorry for the ignorance, but the guy must have been pretty special for clubs across Europe to pay tribute to him at their games.

@ Bari Mike
Gabriele was a well-liked and well-respected DJ in the Rome nightlife. He was a loyal fan of Lazio and was present at all matches. Most of the times he would be joined by some (well-known) lads from the Curva Nord, ultras, which pretty much makes him ultra’ as well. You have to know that he was not violent in any way, so no hooligan of any kind.
A couple of hours before he got murdered on the 11th of November 2007, he sent a text message to Lazio player and friend De Silvestri, saying he had been up all night DJ’ing, but was on his way to Milan to see his Lazio play anyway. While he was sitting in his car, he got shot by Spaccarotella, who later lied in his declarations and got away with 6 years, although there was a demand of 30 years.
One of the reasons so many groups of ultras around Italy and Europe have shown (and still show) banners for Gabriele is out of respect. Because it’s not necessarily a fan of Lazio that was shot to death, it’s an ultra’, so ‘uno di noi’ (one of us), someone with the same ideals and passion. Murdered by the state, by the police. And as you may know, or not know, the police and the ultras are far from being good friends.
Yesterday in Rome there were several events planned to remember Gabriele. There was the opening of a park, named after him. There was the opening of a Foundation in his name, and a reunion of donors that in the name of Gabriele Sandri have given blood transfusions to sick children in the past year. There was also a mess to remember our Gabriele, and a silent march in Rome with candles.
Gabriele vive.

I was in Firenze this summer and saw several tributes to Gabbo in the city center.

I think the main reason why Gabbo is held in high regard is fairly simple. Firstly, he was a very well regarded laziale and for our tifosi, he could never be forgotten. For Italians in general, I think it had such an impact because anybody in the stands on a Sunday afternoon can look around at fans conversing and realise that it could have been anyone. The sense of injustice, which is something I consciously speak little about only unifies calcio. Gabbo, as a person as much as a fan, was capable of having that effect.
I would just like to point out that earlier this season, Gigi Buffon paid his own personal tribute to Gabriele when we were facing Juventus. Never forgotten.
I wanted to keep the tribute simple this year but as it is a subject close to all our hearts, I would like to do a special tribute at some point in the future. I will take on board everything that has been posted here and see what I can do.
Grazie.

@Gabriele Vive and Cathal,
Thanks so much for filling me in. I knew a little bit about what happened as far as Gabbo being tragically murdered (for lack of a better term) and what more or less transpired at the auto grill that sad day. But I didnt know too much about the man and what he meant to people. Again, thank you for giving me a glimpse of what a good guy, and bright light this guy was (and is)
Although my family is Barese and I am a fan of AS Bari, Lazio will forever hold a special place in my hear. Last May, I saw my first live Serie A match at Olimpico featuring SS Lazio. The stadium was about 20% full that day, but the Curva Nord was more or less full, and those guys were awesome. Cheering and singing the whole way through. I remember seeing some signs and pictures remembering Gabbo. The whole scene gives me goose bumps as I type this.
Gabbo, per sempre!!!
