Go Go Elano!

By: cathal | December 10th, 2008

Apologies for the lack of posts in recent days but I have been a bit under the weather to say the least. Not much has been going on at Lazio but one transfer rumour has emerged and it seems to be developing nicely.

Elano is the latest in a string of players to be linked with our colours. The 27 year-old Brazilian sensation is apparently looking to move away from Eastlands after having a tiff with Manchester City boss, Mark Hughes. Lotito is eager to secure a loan deal for the clever midfielder in January with a view to a permanent move and it appears as though Rome is Elano’s preferred destination. We will have to wait and see if anything materialises but the rumour is very credible if we are to believe the words of Carlo Nicolini, a staff member at Elano’s former side, Shakhtar Donetsk.

I have been a huge fan of Elano ever since I watched him score twice against Argentina in a friendly match. From the comfort of my own sitting room I could see he was quite a player and I would be chuffed to see him at Lazio. He is very similar to Matuzalem, as both have showcased their talents in the Ukraine and with a Shakhtar side who tend to play attractive attacking football. My only qualms about the potential deal is that I don’t feel he is what we really need right now. However, having a player of his stature within our ranks would certainly help. Check him out for yourself in the video below. Unfortunately I can’t find a compilation but this goal will give you some idea of his quality:

Elano is quality. Has been since his Santos days. Part of that team with Robinho, Diego, Alex, Ricardo Oliveira etc.

My only fear with this is, if Elano comes to Lazio where does that leave Foggia?? He barely plays as it is and I can’t think of anyone more worthy then him in the Lazio camp who deserves to be in the starting 11 each week.

cathal as things are going in last month and something maybe it will be a good thing to sign him even i agree with you that we better sign a player from different position like from defence but after the game with siena the attack is not what it was so i think he can do big things for us but first we gonna need to wait and see…
p.s. the money can be problem i dont know how much he erns in m.c but i think he’s got a big wage if someone knows by any chance plaese let me know
    FORZA LAZIO

The salary issue is something I have thought about.

Elano earns something in the region of £40,000 a week which works out at around 2.5 million euro a year. This is much higher than our salary cap but Manchester City are now the richest club in the world and can easily afford to pay a portion of his wage should he come to Lazio. Whether they would be prepared to do that or not remains to be seen.

Keep in mind that Elano is highly religious too and has said that he would like to earn as much money as he can out of football so he could help out others. Take from that what you will.

As for being a threat to Foggia, I don’t believe he necessarily will be. He could easily slot into midfield in a playmaker role thus allowing Ledesma to concentrate on defensive duties. However, he is more than capable of playing as trequartista if required.

i have gotta say that i wouldnt mind seeing elano in the shirt. he may be the link up between the mid and attack that we have desperately been missing lately. but we really need a solid centerback so hopefully lotito will grant my wishes haha

elano knows that he is not gonna get the same money if he leave, so the question is how much lotito will offer and about centerback the bigest option is contreras wich i’m not sure aboutthat they will exchange makinwa for him

I think Elano and Cabaye are the “real” rumours at the minute. There’s at least some evidence to support the talk surrounding those two. It seems Elano has been looking for advice about a move to Lazio and we have been scouting Lille, so I would say there is weight behind those rumours.

Anything else is just mere speculation at the minute.

Elano looks like a good player.

Let’s buy him so that all our problems of inconsistency are solved, we stop conceding goals, our tactics suddenly improve when they look dodgy during a game, so our strikers become sharper suddenly, so that Rossi steps up a gear. I am sure he will not need time to acclimatise, develop his language, move his family, and i am sure he is the type of footballer who is on form every time he plays a football match and never looks off sorts. And our squad looks a little thin too – i think we need to beef it up a little.

Let’s buy him cause it sounds like he will be the solution to all our problems.

    Yeah.
