Goran Pandev – The Bullied

By: cathal | August 19th, 2009

Legal action has been bubbling under for quite a while but things are starting to get serious at precisely the wrong time. Pandev has demanded reintegration into the squad or he will take this matter to the courts whilst Lotito remains adamant that the Macedonian has no grounds whatsoever. Whose side are you on?

Goal.com have posted a transcript of Goran’s message to the club. It reads as follows:

“According to the effects of Arts. 7 and 12 AC, as a result of exclusion, I ask for immediate reinstatement in the first team within three days. Failing that, I will protect my own interests with the necessary actions.”

I don’t know exactly what these articles consist of but I assume he is demanding to be a part of our squad for Atalanta and if he doesn’t get what he wants, we’re going to court. Lazio have responded through our own lawyer, Gianmichele Gentile:

“Pandev is contracted here until 2010, whereas Ledesma’s deal expires in 2011. Ledesma has shown an attitude of staying close to the club, and his position is different to Pandev. The Macedonian does not want to be here, he wants to go, but then he asks to be reintegrated to the squad.”

(There’s a small hint there that Cristian will be back in the squad. That news may have riled Pandev).

I liked Goran, in fact, I liked him a lot. However, Goran Pandev is not Lazio. He is contracted to play for the club when called upon and represent the club as best he can. Nowhere in his contract does it say he has the right to hold us to ransom, nowhere in his contract does it say he can demand a move whenever he likes and nowhere in his contract does it say he can just leave. I guess that means he has zero grounds and even less dignity.

Goran is the new Valon. Like Behrami, he could threaten us with Article. 17, hell, he can use it if he wants but the problem is, then he would be up in court having to defend himself. He won’t do that; he’s too chicken. That’s the reality of the situation. Instead, he will opt to threaten Lazio and bring Lazio into disrepute until he gets his wish. Well Claudio, I suggest you ready that metaphorical nail gun, find a rough bench and get to work; Goran Merda! Forza Lazio!

Hmm Lotito don’t want to sell him neither to play him in the squad. Very odd decision he made. Is he waiting for year to pass and someone to take him for free???

Lotito is actually risking money for once, to wage war against the common mercenary. He’s not the type you’d expect to do this, but I can’t help but side with him

Lazio are paying Goran’s wages and we’re allowing him to train with the team. That’s honouring his contract. Goran has no leg to stand on.

i don’t know if u guys know but in macedonia everybody are talking that pandev will stay in lazio for another year at least and what he did was expected, why? because he needs one more year to get the italian passport and be a EU player that’s why he doesn’t want to go to zenit and that’s why maybe now he is changeing his mind when not one single offer came from italian team FORZA LAZIO

Hey Guys, Napoli offside here. We’re getting a Yahoo SerieA fantasy league of as many people from The Offside as we can. To join, go to ‘groups’ and click ‘join group’,
    type in:

    Group ID#: 670
    Password: forzaoffside

    * Another point, it might be a nice touch if you put the first few letters of the offside page you are from in parenthesis after your team manager name, so that we all know who is who and we can get a little inter-blog competition going on.

as much as i don’t like pandev’s antics right now, i think his return to the team would definitely strengthen the squad. either way, i hope it gets resolved sooner than later.
really enjoy reading the latest about our bianceleste! keep up the great work!

@ Christopher: I will be joining the Yahoo fantasy Serie A game later anyway so for sure, count me in and I urge anybody who would like to represent the Lazio Offside to do so. Stick it to the Riomanisti!!!

@ Eddie: Of course Pandev’s return would help the team; whatever about his behaviour, he is a top player. There is a slight problem though; Cruz is more than likely his replacement.

Lotito is an idiot in my opinion. We’ll never truly do anything at Lazio until we are rid of him.

Not that I like the way Goran “il bambino” Pandev is acting but I would take and old case a Peroni running my team before Lotito.

I wish Pandev could stay and we send Lotito to Russia.

Staiano, Lotito can be annoying as hell, but I think in the long run, he’s done more good than bad for the team. Yeah, this situation could have been dealt with differently, but I don’t think you can underestimate the solid financial ground he’s put Lazio on. We’re literally leaps and bounds ahead of others in this regard.

I think the “dissidents” going to be reintegrated into the team. If they’re not, my only fear is losing them for nothing later, especially Pandev. That said, a team can’t be held prisoner by the whims of players. It has to act in its best interests. So we can’t just take any shitty offer, just because he wants to go…

I can’t understand why Lotito did not sell Pandev to other club?even if the offer is 10 or 12 million euros it’s better then nothing, the next season Pandev will be free player and Lazio can’t get neather penny, then why will take the concequences,in my opinion Lotito is not a clever president,it’s hard to belive that Lazio will get in the top four again whit president who can’t sell neather one player and bring money to the club,he bring Cruz so what, Lazio now nave two veteran strikers Cruz and Rochhi and only one young Zarate and thats far from great future for the club.

@ Stef: That info is needed to join that league, you enter that data when you register your team on the Yahoo website. I’ll give everybody more details later if they’re stuck.

Guys, we were never going to get a big sum of money for Pandev. Real Madrid inflated player prices with their ridiculous buying earlier in the summer and Lotito probably thought he could ride the crest of that wave and catch a great deal. As it is, Pandev can walk for free in the winter but you can be sure that some teams will chuck a few million here and there to get his signature. Goran clearly wants to stay in Italy and he can’t use Article 17 in Italy so he is stuck until Claudio says he can go…but if Juve or Inter do sign him up on a pre-contract in January then Goran is laughing all the way to the bank because that’s exactly what he has wanted and in doing so, he screws Lazio out of cash.

Lotito used his brains and business nouse by signing Cruz on a short-term deal; if he performs, I’m sure he’ll stay, if he doesn’t, all we have lost is the money we spent on his salary and then we can go out onto the market and search for the next Zarate.

Claudio makes baffling decisions, decisions which go against the norms of soccer but generally, he manages to pull something out of nowhere, like a Zarate or a Muslera or a Lichtsteiner and we take a step forward.

The Lotito debate is neverending but it is difficult to argue against the fact that he has bought some excellent players and at the same time, kept the finances in great nick considering.

Stef, if you havn’t made a team yet go here

    http://us.seriea.fantasysports.yahoo.com/football

that should take you to the ‘home’ tab, which is where you will find the link ‘join group’– right underneath where it shows you the groups that you are in (Assuming you typed Lazio as your favorite team, ‘fans of Lazio’ will be one of your groups by default).

I hope that helps, if you still need help bop over and I’ll do what I can. In the meantime… FORZA NAPOLI

@Sal my issues with Lotito started long ago and the way the Pandev situation has gone only reinforces my distaste for him as the President.

Remember the season after Peruzzi retired and we had no one in waiting and couldn’t sign anyone new so we ended up with Marco Ballotta in the nets, the oldest goalkeeper to appear in Serie A? Things like that are a pretty big X on Lotitio’s resume if you ask me.

To the author of this post:

Are you serious?? Lotito is the shameful one, but he’s just the next step in rotten management at Lazio that disrespects players.

All Pandev is saying is he demands wage raises based on his performance. You fail to mention – you probably don’t even know – that Pandev’s pay is 400,000 euros a year, that is the same as Inzaghi.

When was the last time Inzaghi was in the game?? Pandev is a world class player, surely he deserves a raise after his years of service – and goal scoring – to the club. Any true Lazio fan, or fan of football period, can see this.

And ooh, you fail to mention that Lotito has a huge price tag on Pandev. So he thinks Goran is worth 20M but doesn’t want to pay him like he is.

Complete BS. Most Lazio players that leave always speak highly of the fans and enjoyed playing there, but they never speak highly of management.

    I wonder why…

We all know Lotito is a problem but you fail to mention (or perhaps you don’t know) that Pandev was offered a new contract months ago that was considered economically sufficient, according to his agent and so your argument for his behaviour can be disregarded on that basis.

I do agree that he may have got bad treatment but this is not about money; unless he feels he should be on a ridiculous wage.
