I Know It’s April Fool’s Day But…
By: cathal | April 1st, 2009…I’m not going to indulge in the joking. I don’t know about elsewhere in the world but there’s a superstition in Ireland where you are cursed for life if you prank someone after noon. I’m not the superstitious type but you avoid these things if you can. Anyway, we may have lost many readers today due to injuries sustained upon hearing the false news that the Derby has been cancelled and that Pandev has signed for Rioma. Apparently a cancellation of the Derby was on the cards but I can tell you now, Goran has not signed for our archrivals. Speaking of Rioma, it’s there day today so they can dream on.

Apologies for the lack of posts in recent days, it seems I have being doing this a lot lately but it’s not because I’m getting bored or neglectful. Quite simply, my internet is still dodgy and to compound my grief, I had the word count for an essay doubled hours before the deadline. Suffice to say I had my reasons. Thanks for the votes in last week’s poll. I asked whether you thought Lotito’s recent ouburst was justified or not and you voted as follows:
Yes – 86%
No – 14%
I am surprised by the margin of victory for the “Yes” camp here. Personally, I voted “No”. I found the timing of his comments baffling to say the least. I know our games of late have been incredibly disappointing but I felt he could have said this earlier in the season. However, I hope his words will fire up the boys.

With hindsight, I can now see his reasons. Rozehnal is said to be contemplating a move elsewhere, which is understandable at his age I guess but we also have Carrizo who has resorted to the downright ridiculous. I think I finally understand what Claudio meant about “respect”. JP has absolutely none for the president, coach, the fans or even his fellow players. I can’t wait to see the back of him if I’m honest but what do you think? Let me know in this week’s poll. Vote here.
It was suggested in the comments box that perhaps we should discuss the players we would like to see at Lazio next season. I will select the five players I would most like to see here and I encourage you to do the same in the comments section. Please be realistic in your selection; we all would kill to have Messi walking around in sky blue but that is highly unlikely. So, within the realms of possibility, here are the fellows I want:
Emiliano Moretti * 27 years-old * Left-Back * Valencia

I want more Italian players at Lazio next season, I’ve frequently expressed that as I reckon it could push us up the table. We may have Kolarov and Radu for the left side of defense but neither is reliable and the latter is arguably best at centre-back. What Emiliano would bring to the team is simple; he is a solid player with a wealth of experience and considering the Spanish side’s financial problems, he could come at a cut-price. All that aside, I’ve also heard he’s a laziale and a bit of additional passion wouldn’t go amiss.
- – - – -
Daniele Portanova * 30 years-old * Centre-Back * Siena

A die-hard laziale, Portanova has become a fixture for Siena in Serie A. Daniele would bring much needed passion, experience, some extra height for those set pieces and I think he could provide the pressure to improve the likes of Cribari. A risk worth taking in my book but would he accept a role on the bench?
- – - – -
Juan Sebastian Veron * Very Old * Centre-Midfielder * Estudiantes

A true legend of our colours, Juan Seba would boost that inconsistent midfield and considering he has expressed a desire to return, this is a no-brainer. Yes, he’s 34 years-old and probably lacks the legs to play every game at a high tempo but he has the quality to step in for the injury-prone Matuzalem when required. Snap him up Lotito.
- – - – -
Sebastian Giovinco * 22 years-old * Attacking-Midfielder * Juventus

We supposedly refused the option to sign him in the past but with Juve being linked to the likes of Ribery and Cassano, perhaps Seba is still attainable. I don’t actually rate the starlet as highly as most but I believe him to be the perfect foil for Foggia and we could do with another little maestro running in and around the opposition. The only obstacle would be his price.
- – - – -
Sergio Floccari * 27 years-old * Forward * Atalanta

It was a tough decision between Serge and Acquafresca (who we are currently being linked with). I feel the Bergamo hitman would give an extra dimension to our attack. He is a very well-rounder player, experienced and reliable and it looks a certainty La Dea can’t keep him. I reckon it’s time to count the pennies and place an attractive bid on their table.

Those are my suggestions, now I’m eager to hear yours. Forza Lazio!

well on the poll i have to add in teh point of Bolivia 6-1 argentina. If carrizo let in 6 goals to bolivia how is he expected to keep a position it the lazio goal. hes a joke. he shud be sold to the pieces of shit on the other side of rome where he belongs with the rest of them jokes. Muslera is far safer and teh defenders believe in him unlike when carrizo was in goal and they kept headin the ball away when it was his.

Didn’t see the Argentina game so it wouldn’t be fair to comment but I heard people say it could have been ten if it wasn’t for JP and I’ve heard others say his positioning was wrong.
Must find highlights later and scrutinise the game.

For the five players i would like to see on the team next year, I would have to say Elano and Affelay to add to the midfield would be perfect next to Ledesma and Foggia (if Ledesma is still on the team next year). Moretti would be perfect for left-back. I know this isn’t a purchase for Lazio but I would really like to see Alessandro Tuia and Ettore Mendicino become regulars on the team. I know that people will disagree with me because of the age of Tuia and Diakite but i would really like to see them as our 2 main center backs.

Aldo, we dont need Carrizo… remember, we already have ONE south american keeper with sometimes questionable decision making skills!

i would just like to clarify that i saw the argentina-bolivia highlights and in my opinion JP made some pretty decent saves… it could easily have been 8 or 9 goals if it weren’t for him…
now i’m not justifying his attitude towards LAZIO but i don’t think it’s fair to say he’s garbage based on this game… i would like to see him improve his attitude and stay with us… we all know what he is capable of (and let’s not forget he is only 24 yrs old!!)for the game highlights you can see them at:

Might be harsh but if you put Buffon in that squad, Argentina could have won one nil.
From the highlights, his positioning on all goals was disastrous and why is he trying to direct the defence instead of watching the ball? Very strange.

Carrizo had a poor game bar one save. Even that is irrelevant, we judge him on how he plays for Lazio and he has talked the talk but he hasn’t walked the walk. Cya and vattene. Make Muslera no.1 and bring back Berni who’s been killing it at Salernitana (worth a mention)
Portanova and Moretti are both laziali and both play in positions we need cover in. Would cream if we got them, ditto Floccari.
Giovinco and Acquafresca are wanted by Juve and Inter so its a step too far.

If Carrizo wants to continue acting like a child then let him go… his loss (we actually ours after the money and time spent on signing the bastard). As to whom I would like to see in the light blue shirt next season, here is my pick;
Elano
Veron
Aquafresca
Fabio Grosso
CannavaroPosted from

I’d love Grosso but is he affordable? I think he’ll be looking to return to Italy in summer.
Cannavaro? Not a chance, he’ll go to a big team or Napoli, who have turned him down cause of wages.
As for Carrizo, Lotito won’t sell him at a loss. Trust me, Claudio would rather see him rot on the pine rather than lose money.

Bafétimbi Gomis: St-Étienne.
Eden Hazard: Lille
Dirk Kuyt: Liverpool FC (so over-looked as one of the keys to Liverpool’s success that it is criminal)
Michael Bradley: Borussia Monchengladbach
Kameni: EspanyolPosted from

Bradley was a joke; i ment to put
Christopher Samba: defender – Blackburn RoversPosted from

I hope Pandev stay in LAZIO and in my opinion Zarate is a good one for transfer because Goran and Rocchi very very match with together but Zarate is a single player and his style good for arabian football (with high skill in dribling)

Is Dirk Kuyt available? He would be perfect!
I’ll say I instantly voted no on keeping JP. I’m a River Plate fan and watched him thinking this is the best Argentina have? He’s a very good shot stopper but his questionable attitude and poor decision making are huge negatives. We’ve already got Muslera who is also young, better decision making, better attitude and also a good shot stopper. A real no-brainer in my opinion.

1.Vagner Love 2.Fabricio Coloccini 3.Arteta 4.Ivanovic
and 5 and player that i really wanna see in LAZIO is Niko Kranjcar
p.s. even though is hard to get players from premier league because they got really big wagesPosted from

Kerlon(21)-Forward-Fuckin awesome…..Palacio(27)-Forward/Attacking mid-Has been watched by our scouts recently, but very unlikely…..Crespo(33)-Forward-Old, but always good for a goal…..Elano(27)-Central mid-Great shooting and vision. Would be great…..Giovinco(22)-Attacking mid-Best possible transfer as he is awesome and Italian

for us to do better next season i think we need a cb, lm and left back. if there is a possible shot at getting giovinco i would have to say to go for it. He is amazing basically and he could slot into the lm role, though it is not where he would do best but he would stil excell. as a center back raul albiol would be a good buy. he is 23 and plays for valencia who are going to sell a lot of there players and we should try to capitalize on this. he is young and ha the potential to improve greatly with consistant football. and in lb i amn’t sure who we should get. other then these if we sell one of our strikers we should sign a striker is of the luca toni type, tall and strong and can hold up the ball. if iaquinta is available that would be a great buy and i think he could make the first team every week. if juventus do get cassano i think iaquinta could leave as his match time would sure decrease. oh and also affeley would be good for left mid and elano would be a great buy but HIGHLY unlikely in my opinion

Mexico have sacked Sven-Goran Eriksson.
Bring him back to Formello!!!

God no! I think any coach could of won the schudutto with the Lazio team of 1999-2000… Sven was just lucky that he was coach at the time.
Look at what he has done for England and Mexico since – That’s telling you something

he took England to 3 straight quarter-finals
given how overrated England are and the hype surrounding a side that in reality had no chance of winning any major comps, that’s a fair effort
of course if you’d prefer we get someone like Diego Simeone who led River to last place, then I understand.

Hello,
About JP, i think we should stick by him, last year people were saying the same things about muslera, if i’m not mistaking.
Affelay would make a good addition to the squad
Cignac from Toulose, Ligue 1 curent top goal scorerForza Lazio!

A few things:
Kuyt has just agreed to sign an extension with Liverpool so that rules him out.
Some have made interesting suggestions here. Kameni (goalkeeper) is a fantastic shout as Espanyol may get relegated and he could go cheap although I don’t know if we can take him to Lazio. Another JP maybe.
Gignac is interesting although Hoarau of PSG is a better prospect in my opinion.
Many interesting options in general and thanks for your contributon. Keep voting on the poll if you haven’t already and I’ll have a new post up soon.
