I’m Ignoring Igli
By: cathal | January 4th, 2009I like Tare but I hope he’s talking bullcrap.
I’m referring to an article that I found on goal.com. The headline is quite scary if you are hoping for vast improvements within the Lazio setup: “Tare Predicts Only Departures From Lazio.” This is in stark contrast to the headline of this article posted three days earlier: “Lazio’s Tare Promises Important Purchase In January.”
First things first, goal.com don’t half like to mess with our heads. If you compare the actual text of both articles, Igli is basically saying the exact same thing; Lazio will only sell…unless of course we find someone who can improve the team. We could speculate all day long about who can and can’t improve the team but there is one thing I would conclude from these comments. I don’t see us spending big bucks. In fact, I smell loan deals all the way.
For me, that narrows down our targets. I’m expecting one midfielder this winter and I reckon there are three men in the hunt for the contract. One is Elano who is currently fuelling the speculation of a move to Rome. I am very wary of the fact that it is the Brazilian himself who is sparking the rumours and not anyone involved with our club. He is interested in Lazio but I’m not quite sure if the interest is being reciprocated. Dubarbier may well be on the cards but once again, nobody is saying much about that other than his agent. Veron is the other possibility although technically that is a suggestion, not a rumour. In my opinion, if we sign anyone it will be one of those three. All talk of a central defender being drafted in has died.
To refer back to Tare’s comments for a moment, the departures should be Makinwa and Belleri. Stephen is a dead cert to go, I think its safe to conclude that, the question really is where. Chievo? I have my doubts, they are almost relegated, there is no way they want something permanent and Lotito does. West Ham interests me more; we have already offloaded Behrami to them and boy do they need a striker who can run. If Belleri can be sold he will be and Inzaghi must be a contender to go. He is effectively a free agent in the summer and with Siena apparently showing an interest, he might well leg it to the exit before he is pushed. Mauri looks like he’s staying, Palermo are supposedly eyeing up Rocchi as a back-up and Fiorentina have apparently snatched Ledesma through the mindboggling Article 17 despite the fact Ledesma’s own agent says this is impossible (answers on the back of a postcard please).
Speaking of answers and postcards, if anybody manages to crack the case that is Igli’s role at Lazio, please let me know in the comments section. In the meantime, I’m off to the betting shop to place my life savings on Tare’s position being officially declared “The Go-Between Guy” before the end of 2009.

I believe he’s officially a “team manager.” Kind of like you said, a locker room influence that binds the coaching staff with the players. Pessotto does that for Juve, also a recently retired player.

Igli Tare is a DS (direttore sportivo)
its the same role Moggi had, signing players and putting the squad together.
Tare though seems to be more like Lotito’s rep in the dressing room with Lotito taking DS duties.
whatever Igli does, he is just a puppet.

And do we ever feel like we’re burn this half season?
And do we ever wish to be Ericson’s Season?
we can say that we have.
we can say that we have.
And do we ever feel things here aren’t right?
And do we ever feel the time slip by?
And we can say that we have.
And we can say that we have.So hear this please.
And watch as our heart speeds up endlessly.
And look for the stars as the sun goes down.
Each breath that we take have a thunderous sound.
Everything, everything’s magic.
This summer mercato we’ll prepare for the best and the fastest ride.
And reach out the table and I’ll make it ours.
Everything, everything’s magic.FORZA LAZIO

Already there is confusion over his role at the club. His official role (I remember hearing it at the time but I have completely forgot) is to provide a link between team and coach. However, I just see a man who speaks on behalf of Delio and Claudio whenever those two want to sit in the background and keep quiet. I am more interested in what Igli is to become in the future because for me, he is well on his way to being the third man (behind Lotito and Rossi).

Cathal, thanks for the updates!!
Could you inform me of the latest news regarding Simone Inzaghi and Siena?? I really think Inzaghino should go now to play more regularly.Cheers!!

To be honest Fabio, I haven’t heard much about the Inzaghi – Siena move. I tend to stay away from the less reliable sources and concentrate on what I think is reliable. I have no subscription to PDL now so perhaps there’s someone out there who knows more about the Inzaghi situation than I do.
Here’s what I have read between the lines. We have 5 strikers in the first team which is probably the ideal number. The primary objective on the striker front is getting rid of Makinwa. I don’t believe either Inzaghi or Makinwa is wanted at the club but Inzaghi has been here for years, he has shown some glimpse of form this season (Lecce) and he’s also available for free in the summer whereas Makinwa is not so Lotito understandably wants to get rid of Stephen. When that happens, which it will I believe but it could be a slow process, Lotito will look to bring someone else in. Pazzini has been mentioned, Bojinov on loan is a possibility too.
Essentially, before Inzaghi can be sold we need to dispatch with Makinwa and bring someone else in, even if it’s just temporary. Then there is a window for Simone to depart. If Siena want a permanent deal and they offer us cash, I wouldn’t be too surprised if Lotito lets him go and keeps Makinwa. The other factor in the equation is Mendicino. Rossi is refusing to let him leave and it is believed that Ettore will gradually come into the first team towards the end of the season. By the end of January, I would expect to see Pandev, Zarate and Rocchi as the three main forwards and then two of four. The four would be Inzaghi, Makinwa, Mendicino and a new arrival. I don’t believe Rossi wants to have a squad with only four strikers so for every player that leaves the first team, someone else will come in. Whether that is a Primavera player or a new signing remains to be seen.
