It’s Oh So Quiet

By: cathal | August 27th, 2008

With only one week until the end of the transfer window, one could be forgiven for expecting a bit of hustle and bustle but a few days have passed since that final week commenced and there is not much to report.

It is the same old names that are being regurgitated by the media. It appears that we are, once again, in pole position to sign Domizzi. The Napoli defender looks destined to leave his current club and although he has been linked with quite a few Serie A sides, Lazio could offer the best deal. However, this will largely depend on the eventual sale of Stendardo. A Stendardo-Domizzi swap may still be on the cards but it seems Lotito wants to secure Guglielmo’s departure before he secures any deal for a defender. Stendardo could also be offloaded to Chievo or Bologna. Another name that has emerged is Pasqual of Fiorentina. A mouthwatering idea but I don’t see that move happening.

Crespo still remains a transfer target for us, however our new Director of Football has stated that a deal for Crespo is unlikely to be reached. The reason? Well, according to Tare, Crespo wishes to remain at Inter. It must be the pay cheque that is keeping him in Milan because I don’t think he will be playing much first team football this season. Igli was also quick to deny the truth in the Bogdani rumour. I guess that means we’re stuck with Makinwa again, unless the murmurs regarding a potential swoop for Pazzini or Cavani are true. Pazzini is a terrific little player but it seems Genoa are closer to his signature than anyone else; although the club are currently denying that he has actually put pen to paper. Let’s hope Lotito has scuppered that deal at the last minute with a cheeky bid for the starlet. Cavani is an intriguing prospect but I doubt anything will ever materialise there.

If you want to know who is most likely to sign for us this week then look no further than Brocchi. It seems we are in the process of thrashing out an agreement for the veteran midfielder. The speculation comes after Lotito admitted a deal could be done with Milan. However, there are also fresh rumours regarding Guana of Palermo. It seems Lotito and Zamparini met recently to have a sandwich and a friendly chat without mentioning Edison Cavani’s name at all. Perhaps Guana was a hot topic of conversation? We shall see. Once again, the proposed transfer could depend on a player exit, in this case, Baronio. Apparently he is fed up with Lazio and after twelve years of to and fro, I can see why. As for his relocation, well, your guess is as good as mine.

I can only assume things will start hotting up in the near future and maybe some wheels will get into motion but for now, enjoy the peace and quiet!
