Keeping Up Appearances
By: cathal | July 19th, 2009Everybody’s favourite president, Claudio Lotito, paid a quick visit the other day to our boys in Auronzo di Cadore. The wily old man seemed to be in fine form, interacting and joking with the fans who also made the long journey. I would say it is great to see the head honcho in this kind of environment but as ever, I question his real motives. Trying to deflect attention from one scenario and in the process, steal the show? Probably.
To make a sickener even more nauseous, our players failed to deliver a win on the pitch against Universitatea Craoiva either. I have seen worse games and better results but there is not much to complain about. Nevertheless, the game provided several talking points. Zarate’s weight was certainly one; he definitely looked slightly heavier than last season. Mauri divided opinion as he normally does and the effectiveness of the 4-2-3-1 with Rocchi spearheading our attack was also a key point of discussion. After speaking to several fans, the performances of Muslera, Firmani and Correa warranted two thumbs-up and Eliseu looked decent as well.
The Romanian side could have been the perfect test for Europe but unfortunately, we are still in the experimental phase and as a result, the game became an exhibition rather than a competitive friendly, if there is such a thing. You can see the goals below if you’re really desperate for a glimpse of us in action but I warn you in advance, Scaloni’s effort was hardly a strike to behold. Forza Lazio!
