Lazio 3-1 Cagliari

Okay, I never saw this match. I have watched highlights and I can say we still have problems breaking down teams that pack the defence and basically defend from the start. In the first half we had over 70 percent possession but we failed to carve out clear cut chances. Mauri had a good chance but the Cagliari goalkeeper Fortin made a good save.

Luckily just after the restart Rocchi scored to finally give us the goal that we so deserved. A great pass from Mauri found Rocchi and he beat the goalkeeper with a sublime finish from a tight angle. Lazio are a much better team when ahead so it was not suprising when we went two goals ahead on the counter attack. Pandev recieved the ball and had his back towards goal but still turned past the defender and smashed the ball into the net. Great finish.

Cagliari got a goal back shortly after much hyped Aquafresca came on. Really poor defending to be honest from Lazio. Maybe we thought the game was over being dominant for so long. I don’t know. A really tame long ball forward and Aquafresca sends a looping header over Muslera. It was waking up call and in we restored the two goal cushion when again Rocchi latched onto a smart defence splitting pass to score. Game over.

Well I can not really stress how much Lazio needed that victory. Mauri also looked back to his former self which is crucial otherwise we become really one dimensional. On Sunday we travel to Reggio Calabria to take on Reggina who have had a miserable start to the season after losing some important players in the summer. They are currently bottom and got thrashed by Juventus 4-0. Saying that it will be a difficult match. They are a much better team at home. We should still win though. Then it will be on to Real Madrid and then Milan at the Olimpico. A really tough week.
