Not the start I was hoping for

By: Taib | September 18th, 2007

First off an introduction. I am Taib and I will be writing in this blog. I am pretty new to blogging so you will have to forgive me if this blog is not going to be great at the start. Rest assured, I will flesh it out eventually. I have been supporting Lazio since 1995-1996 which was way back. Currently, I am a university student with too much time on my hands.

Luckily, this inaugural post was baptised by a Lazio match against the Greek side Olimpiacos, from Athens. Unfortunately, fans were not allowed inside the stadium because of crowd trouble relating to Olimpiacos venture last season in the Champions League. Lazio started in our usual 4312 formation with De Silvestri, Stendardo, Cribari and Zauri in defence. Mudingayi, Ledesma and Manfredini were the three centrel midfielders playing in fornt of the the defence. Mauri was back for his first start of the season in the trequartista role. Rocchi and Pandev were the strikers.

The first half was a real morbid affair with Lazio not being able to create anything substantial. The story of the season so far. Chances for both teams were minimal but Galetti should have scored. He shot straight at Ballotta when through on goal. Other then that chances were threadbare. Nothing happenning for long periods of the game.

After the break Olimpiacos stepped up their game. They gave Lazio a real warning from a corner when Antzas headed straight at Ballotta. Not long after though they eventually made the breakthrough they deserved. Galletti was released and gleefully rounded Ballotta and stuck it away. A nice goal I admit it myself. Although I have to say this goal was maybe offside. If you think that this goal finally snapped the Lazio players into action then you would be sorely mistaken. In fact it was Olimpiacos who were galvanised completely. They had further chances although mostly long range shots. Lazio then equalised against the run of play. First real chance from open play after an exasperating 77 minutes. Pandev played a dream ball through to Zauri who blasted the ball in at the near post. 1-1 and Lazio then finally got out of their shell. The goal though however nice it was clearly offside. Maybe the linesman was still in awe of Pandev’s pass. Who knows? Lazio were now the better team and Pandev should have scored five minutes from time when he was clean through on goal. It would have been an undeserved victory but I would not have complained. 1-1 the game finished.

Zauri...Controversial equaliser

Zauri…Controversial equaliser

I have to say we are lucky to come away with a result from a dreadful performance. The players have to pick themselves up because it was awful. Our next match is in Bergamo away to Atalanta. A tough place to get any kind of result. We need the result however to kickstart our season. Three points is a must.

Listen let’s drop this charade… you’re not really a Lazio fan. They’re made-up and don’t exist – like girls that don’t put out, and the easter bunny. Screw it, I’ll be looking forward to battling… FORZA ROMA!

i don’t want to be a bitch but it’s Lazio, primA squadra della Capitale ( contrary to the english language,in Italian you need to use the Maschile e feminile, molto importante)

As a Roma fan, i’m happy to welcome you, this will be great come Derby time.

As a Italian football fan, i have to say that to LAzio’s defense, the Olympiacos goal was offside as well. The draw is actually an deserved result,. LAzio should have won the game at the end.

(even as a Romanista, i’ll root for an Italian team over a Greek team in the CL any day of the week.)

and i’m looking forward to your take on President Lotito.
Are you on his side, Paolo ” i’d suck Mussolini’s dick if if i could” Di Canio or the Ultras side? I’d like to know what you think about the situation.

What’s your take on Delio Rossi. I’ve been hearing great things about him since his time at Lecce…

    Welcome Taib!

    No no my friend.
L:azio is not the team of the capital or of the city.
    But of the field dwellers.

The team of the city, for the people, is only one.

C’E SOLO ROMA SEMPRE E LAZIO MERDA E BASTARDI SEMPRE!!

I actually kinda feel bad for spamming when so many other people are harassing poor Taib’s blog. There’s nothing more upsetting than having every comment as an insult or spam.. Inara aside (although she’s a Romanista at heart but doesn’t know it yet).

Then again.. one look at that baby blue up top and I actually want to join in on the harassment. The only thing stopping me (at least today) is your honest assessment of an expectedly poor performance.

CMP: You got me…I am not a Lazio fan at all. I am really a government spy.

Marco420: Thanks for lesson in Italian. That is what living in England does to an Italian. Oh well. You will have to look forward I am afraid. It will be done in due time. Do not worry about it. Not today though. I will be enjoying the Champions League.

Daniele: Lazio was the first team in the Capital. That is a fact. Ever noticed that the city and the Capital are acutally the same place?!!! I mean for a normal human being it is really easy and clear to see that the year 1900 came before 1927. Maybe it takes longer for Romanisti since they have never been the cleverest of folk.

What is Roma then? A team for people from Napoli?!!! LOL.

Bashar: Well thanks for concern Bashar. Ah, Inara the Romanista? Maybe Inara wants to dress like a pied red and yellow court jester too! I really can not see the appeal of the ketchup and mustard top. Join the harassment! It just shows you actually care!

DOe: Thanks. It is good to know that even the Roma have some decent fans. Being a Lazio fan, the Roma fans comments are predictable and having heard them for many a year. It is nothing to be worried about.

Ketchup and Mustard? That’s an interesting way to look at it.. Also very ridiculous. The color red has never in any way symbolized ketchup.. It symbolizes blood, nationalism, or in ancient Rome it symbolized Mars, the god of war himself.

Gold (or mustard as you call it) symbolizes the gods as well as many other things all of which are prestigious. Royalty, valuable artifacts, prosperity, etc…

Baby blue.. hmmm.. Straight from wikipedia:

The color is often used for clothing, decorations, and linen for baby boys in many Western cultures.

Yup.. clothing for baby boys.. Sounds about right.

Bashar: It is ridiculous but that then again Roma is a ridiculous club! We all know that. Actually the red represents imperialism and the yellow represents the belief in the Christian God. The Celeste looks cool. Definately better then Roma. The good ol’ ketchup and mustard combination. Or maybe the ketchup from where you are from is purple? Maybe green.

Listen Roma fans, you are the big team in Rome. Congratulations. Now move the hell on.

I like Lazio because Giorgio Chinaglia was the only player from Italy whom I remember from my time there as a boy. So when he was signed by the Cosmos, and my family moved to the states, it reignited my love of calcio. Don’t paint all the Laziale with the same socialist brush, please. Unless you’re just not bright enough to think of something else to say. Italian tifosi in general are capable of some of the vilest behavior in the world.

And what the hell is with the Napoli slap? Christ.

Correction…I adore Napoli, I root for Lazio. Being removed from Italy helps with this schizophrenia. My buddy is a huge Lazio fan as well so that helps. Welcome, Taib. If we can all avoid strangling each other by the end of the season, we’ll all be doing just fine.

Hey Taib – i take my hats off to you! You seem like a worthy and clever adversary in the battle of Rome. And no, don’t take it all too personally, its just we’ve all been waiting for a true laziale to dog on – and dog on you, we must. That’s about as close as i’ll go to give you a genuine compliment hehe.Oh and good luck with the secret agent thing – i wouldn’t advise you to tell too many people. I hear its looked down upon. Damn this rivalry commenting is gonna be barrels of fun!
