Son of a bitch.
By: salvatore | August 12th, 2008Well, today is the team’s official presentation at Olimpico, and it was supposed to be a good day.
So much for that.
As it turns out, Tommaso Rocchi’s “minor” injury is a much more serious fracture to the fibula, and his recovery time is not yet known. The worst part? He was misdiagnosed by the national team medical squad, who told him it was a muscular problem, and then cleared to play. Now Rocchi being Rocchi, he ignored the pain and pushed himself to play (with a fracture), potentially making it all worse.

Lotito spoke with Ansa about the whole thing, and naturally, he reacted angrily, hitting out at the national team’s doctors.
“He was made to play for the national side while he was injured and that shouldn’t have happened. National pride comes before everything but we have paid a heavy price. They did tests and saw that there were problems, but they wrote it off as a muscular problem,” He said.
“It was only because he continued to feel pain and they sent him for an X-ray that they discovered a kind of fracture.”
Balboa will reportedly watch the game against Cameroon, and then will return to Rome. No word yet on how long he’ll be out. But if it means Makinwa is going to start, it better be sooner rather than later.

Wow. Made him play on a busted leg - that is just criminal. I think there is some kind of monetary compensation for clubs when their players get injured at FIFA or UEFA national team events, is there something like that for the Olympics?

I’m glad we brought Marchisio back to be examined by our own doctors.
