The Class Of Nineteen-Ninety-Something
By: cathal | June 11th, 2009First there was Veron, then there was Nedved, now Marco Di Vaio is the latest in a string of high profile ex-laziali linked with a return to our colours. The Bologna forward is rumoured to be on his way out and it looks like we are in battle with the usual enemy Palermo, for his signature.

What is there to say about Marco that hasn’t been said already? He is a top player, a prolific goalscorer and a fine professional. He has illustrated that wherever he has played. He has journeyed from league to league, division to division; a cultured individual. In fact, it probably wouldn’t matter if he was playing football in Italy, the Antarctica, along the banks of the River Nile or in the Sahara Desert; throw a couple of sticks into the ground, draw a visible line and he will get the ball between them. That’s just how he rolls.
A replacement for Pandev he is not but I would be tempted to take him and sell on Rocchi. Many fans speak about Tommaso’s sense of Lazialita but for my money, Marco is a better attacking option and a greater personality. That would definitely make for an interesting debate. Either way, I hope he makes it here somehow, in whatever capacity and just to remind you of what we would be getting our hands on, here is a compilation of his goals from the season that has just passed. Forza Lazio!

I think Di Vaio would play well next to Zarate, I still hope though that Rocchi doesn’t leave though, it just might be me being a big fan of Tommasino or it might be because I still think he has what it takes. At least as a sub he played well during the season even when he didn’t score. He knows his job as a forward, he passes when he should and he shoots when he should.

Lazio has a great network of swedish fans and Marcus Berg jut happens to be one of them. His dream is to play for Lazio and I am sure he has for want of a better word, prostituted himself to our club. The big question is, and again, for want of a better word, is he Lotito’s type of whore?
My swedish contacts tell me he is a talent guy but for the Dutch league, his goal tally is not that impressive. Still, he is a physical presence, a member of the International side who scored as recent as Wednesday evening and definitely a candidate to consider.
If we sign him, I hope he is more Henrik Larsson than Johan Elmander.

First I hear about this Marcus Berg guy. Sounds interesting. I don’t see anything wrong with adding Di Viao, btw.

Well, if it truly is down to us and you guys, I’d rather Di Vaio went to you. Although, to be honest, I don’t really think Palermo are after him – more of journalistic rumor-mongering…

No way, Di Vaio’s way too old to turn Palermo’s pedophile scouters on.
