Three For All
By: cathal | December 17th, 2008(This is the first of two posts to appear tonight. It was meant to be up a few days ago but I had internet troubles.)
Udinese and Lazio played out a mildly entertaining 3-3 draw on Sunday which doesn’t exactly do much for either side’s season. Nevertheless, considering we were three goals behind at one stage, I wouldn’t complain too much.
Where do I start? This was a game that both sides could have won or lost. A strange team selection from Delio saw reserve players such as Del Nero and Belleri called into the side. Personally, I felt the selection of Del Nero was justified. Delio opted for a 4-4-2 formation, Simone is just about the only half natural left sided midfielder we have, Mauri and Meghni haven’t been doing much recently and apparently SDN was showing terrific form in the lower ranks. Why not play him? We had little to lose. But unfortunately he has come in for considerable flak after the boss whipped him off at half time along with his counterpart Belleri. Perhaps the criticism is a little unfair and unjust. However, Belleri was godawful bad and it is pretty difficult to vindicate that choice whenever our first choice right back was sitting in midfiled. Very much twisted logic on Delio’s part.
And it cost us three goals. The side was unbalanced, lacked confidence, lacked all knowledge of how the game should be played and ultimately left us with a three goal deficit to put right in thirty minutes. Which we did. The comeback came in the form of a Zarate tap in, a powerful Diakite header and a blockbuster from Ledesma. Bailed out is the phrase that springs to mind. Bailed out of embarrassment and I would think a certain Mr.Rossi was bailed out from losing his job, although if you believe everything you read, expect to see Donadoni stand up and sit down and stand up and sit down on that Lazio bench very soon.

So a single point it was. Adequate result, inadequate performance. Next up: Palermo. Bring it on!
