Transfer Tussle
By: cathal | March 19th, 2009If recent rumours are anything to go by, Lazio appear to be doing battle with a number of teams in the transfer stakes. It is the silly season for speculation but the current whispers are plausible to say the least.
The name on the tip of the media’s tongue is Ibrahim Affelay. The Dutch youngster has been linked with a whole host of teams over the years but it seems we are in direct competition with Fiorentina for his signature. The versatile attack-minded player reportedly has a release clause somewhere in the region of 15million euro. That may sound expensive but I have watched him play a few times this season and he is quickly gaining the reputation of a superstar. Whether or not he will ever live up to the hype is a different story but he is an intriguing option. Some transfer expert reckons he could sign with the Viola in the summer. For now, I will ignore him and dream of what may be.
There are also rumours that Bayern Munich have offered us another Holland international, Mark van Bommel to pave the way for some kind of swap deal involving Pandev. Goran’s link to the Germans never ceases to exist and with the Macedonian’s contract expiring quickly, I am anxious to see how Lotito reacts. Van Bommel is out of contract in June so here’s an idea for our president; how about extending Goran’s contract and signing the Bayern midfielder if he takes a nice pay cut? Not bad, eh?
In saying that, I’m not sure how adverse I would be to selling Pandev anymore. Excuse the possible innuendo, but he’s just not doing it for me at the moment. I wonder if we can extract much more out of the guy; I feel his international duties will always hamper his performance for us and as this season has progressed, he has become less influential. Perhaps he just needs a long rest that Rossi is not prepared to grant him. I honestly don’t want to see him go but I do need to see more from him on the pitch or else I would fully support his sale. There are some good players out there for relatively low fees and if Goran wishes to remain with us, he needs to pull up his socks. Forza Lazio!

Julian has just covered Lazio in his round up of future Azzurri stars and you can read it here: http://italy.worldcupblog.org/group-e/future-italian-superstars-part-3-lazio-and-chievo.html
My words regarding Lollo may be harsh and the inclusion of Ledesma may be controversial but I honestly feel the National team would be to soon for De Silvestri and that Ledesma would be a decent call up if it is considered ethical.

There’s nothing concrete as such Franco, just speculation that we are chasing him as far as I can make out.
New reports link Parma midfielder McDonald Mariga with us, He is a versatile midfielder in the Essien/Vieira mould; pacy and technically astute. He would cost roughly 5 million euro and he’s already expressen an interest in joining us. Apparently Milan and Napoli are in the hunt for him but we currently have the advantage in the race for his signature. Thoughts? Do we need another midfielder?

I think we do if we don’t re-sign Matuzalem and we end up loosing Ladesma and Brocchi.
We really need to concentrate on buying defenders. A good friend of mine (who is a Juventino) has told me that they are also in the race to sign Lugano… I have a bet going with him that we’d get our hands on him before Juve does. My opinion is that he’d be more likely to come to Lazio so he could play along side team mate Muslera – He’s hoping!!

I rate Lugano very highly. Would be rapt if we got him.
Ideally bring back Stendardo, keep Cribari, ciao ciao to Rozehnal and Siviglia and give Diakite’ more time, as well as Tuia.
Mariga would also be a good signing.
I also think we need another leftback, keeping in mind Radu a natural CB, not a LB.
Could Zauri possibly return if Delio goes??

pandev should not leave.i understand that he is not giving his best but for a macedonian news paper he said(this is from last month)that he has a pain in his right foot and that he need’s to go under knife but delio wont let him.he said that the pain is really strong and that is way he can not perform that good

Yeah, I heard about the Pandev injury too. Goran is at a critical stage in his career and we need him to be as fit as possible so we can assess his real ability. If he is in that much pain, Delio needs to let him go for surgery.
Must check out that Van Bommel extension and investigate how true it is. As for the defense, I agree with c.testa’s idea. Bring back Stendardo keep Cribari, get Diakite some game time and maybe, just maybe keep Rozehnal and bring in one new face. Lugano isn’t the man for me, I’d prefer a safer bet. Someone with proven quality in Serie A.

i think we could do with another forward and a defender, preferably italian. lugano looks quite promising as the defender, but im not sure who is a good striker. or mendicino could be brought into the first team. or maybe we should just bring makinwa back!!!!!!!!!! JOKE. and id be interested to see carizzo keeping again. but one thing for certain is that siviglia should be shot, or sorry, sold!!

yeah i am glad that carrizo will get his chance to play. The injury to muslera was the only way he could get back in the squad in my opinion. hopefully carrizo will play well, i dont want to see him leave the team after one season. He has much more to add to the team. and cathal i agree with you, at the moment i wouldn’t mind cashing in on pandev if we could bring in someone else good because he has been playing horribly but i dont want to see him go either really because he can play a lot better.
