Under The Microscope
By: cathal | September 2nd, 2009International break time. Regular readers will know how berserk I went over the timing of last season’s international break in September and what do you know, FIFA go against the wishes of everyone and do the exact same thing again (not that they could or even would change it). As a result of that, Lotito is now coming under intense scrutiny in Rome and he really has nobody to blame but himself. Claudio failed to land a defender and unfortunately for him, the slightest mistake puts him back under the public microscope nowadays. It’s not even the fact that he didn’t buy a defender that is the problem but rather that he chased target after target and yet he was still ringing up Reggina five minutes before the deadline looking for help. Drastic.

There is also an irony in that it’s not his transfer campaign that some people despise him for but moreover the way he conducts his business. Naturally though, Tare is coming in for his fair share of the stick as well. Each to their own opinion but other than the fact we missed out on a defender, which is inexcusable, we did manage to have a decent mercato. We spent 26million on Zarate and Matuzalem, both of whom were pivotal in making last year the year it was. We landed Julio Cruz on a free; a proven striker with quality who is already bagging goals for us. We sneaked in Eliseu on the cheap too and he could be a real asset to us in the future. Then the question marks begin to hang over the sales of Rozehnal and De Silvestri; the reasoning behind the decisions is clear but whether we did the right thing or not in selling them is destined to remain a mystery. All in all, a mixed bag of a mercato which many alluded to and a costly one at that.

We now have two weeks to put the summer behind us and look forward to Juventus. We will still be posting here on the blog as frequently as we always do but this is an opportunity for anybody out there with a group, a blog or anything along those lines to get in touch if they wish to co-operate with us in some way. You can find my e-mail address if you click my name at the heading of this entry and if you have any idea for this blog, please, drop me a line. Forza Lazio!

Im still positive for this year when it comes to defence, but only if Stendardo and Diakite are given a fair chance. I wouldnt mind Ledesma coming back in the squad. If everything comes together well and with balla’s team building skills we will have an ok chance this season. And goran can sit back and waste away in the stands hahaha

We were always going to lose Goran for little or nothing, due to the timing of his public leaving announcement.
It’s the way the situation has been handled before and after that announcement that should be brought into question.
Did Goran cost us the possibility of selling him for millions? Yes. But why?
