Zenga To Lazio?
By: cathal | May 27th, 2009While many of you have probably been preoccupied with the Champions League final (and who can blame you, it was magnificent), there is a mighty big ball of another sort rolling in Rome; that is, the rumour that former Catania boss, Walter Zenga is about to move to Lazio. Speculation has been mounting for a couple of days now and there’s no doubt he is close to joining. Very close, in fact.

So what do you make of the guy? For me, he brings many pros and cons. He will undoubtedly ensure the players give 100% and more every time they walk on the pitch. The team will be well organised, disciplined and have a clear gameplan. He will also tighten up our defence and perhaps Walter’s knowhow ends the days of leaking goals at the back. The negatives? Well, if he isn’t sacked from a club, he walks. Part of me reckons he has a burning desire to manage as many clubs as he can before he dies although this is a guy who spent forever at Inter. I would like to think he would stay a while if he does come but considering his contract is said to be an initial one-year deal, I am not so sure. An interesting option, maybe even the best option, but only time will tell. Whether he comes or not, Rossi’s tenure is surely at an end. The speculation must be enough for him to go, let alone a probable push from the mister upstairs. The end of an era has been signalled it seems but a new dawn is sure to begin.

You excited? I am. Forza Lazio!

I can’t believe you guys are actually happy about this? What has Zenga ever done as a coach?? He is basically going to get the axe at Catania if he does not resign so what is that telling you??
And now Lotito is wanting to get rid of De Silvestri?? What Pandev isn’t enough? Who’s next… Foggia? Zarate? Lichti??
Disgusting!

Getting rid of De Silvestri sickens me more than anything. Losing a future bandiera for Acquafresca is the worst piece of business Lotito can do and I will never forgive him if it happens.
De Silvestri could potentially spend the rest of his career at Lazio. Acquafresca will be gone within 2 years.
Disgraceful!!

De Silvestri unlike Nesta actually wants to pledge his future to Lazio just as Maldini has to Milan and he has openly stated this on several occasions. Just like Cristiano said, if Lotito makes sells him, I will never forgive him. I thought we were all for the young players and letting them grow?? I think Lotito is much to worried about the $$$$ – what a dick head

Let’s not be too hasty drawing our conclusions.
Remember the Radu/Rozehnal/Bianchi/Matuzalem/Zarate deals? Loan deals with buy-out clauses? I reckon this is what we are looking at with regards to Borriello and Acquafresca.
As far as I can work out, Genoa have already purchased Acquafresca but he won’t be a starter this season so I think Lotito is trying to bring him in on loan, maybe throw a buyout clause in the deal and snap him up if he cuts the mustard. Same for Borriello, he has been out for over 6 months so I can’t see Milan considering him a started next season so he is probably worth a punt as well.
If we bring in a striker on loan, we can wait until the end of the mercato before making a decision on Pandev and we would also have a whole year to find an adequate replacement should he go.

Kolarov called up for Serbian national team.He deserved it before, but Serbia has a very talented left back from Partizan.I hope Aleksandar gets a chance.

replacing rossi with zenga is a mistake. i remember when he coached steaua bucuresti, he walked away without any explanation at half-time, everyone was shocked and didn’t know what’s happening. steaua was in 1st place then.

Goal.com Prediction
“Juventus should be able to deal with Lazio and get revenge for their bitter Coppa Italia defeats. The lack of Roman fire power up front makes it difficult for the visitors to come away with a result.
Juventus 4-0 Lazio” WTF!?!?!?!

I see nobody is pro-Zenga.
Well, I like the guy very much.
In Romania managed to qualify FC National in Uefa Cup for the first time after many years and won the title next year for Steaua Bucharest.
He was sacked by Steaua’s crazy chairman 3 rounds before the season’s end while Steaua was on 1st place. He didn’t walk away as someone said before here. Actually it is considered that he resisted a long time under the constant pressure from Steaua’s chairman. Also in that year at Steaua he managed to qualify in Uefa Cup Quarter-final after a 2-0 victory against Valencia, at that time current holder of Uefa Cup and champions of Spain. Last time when a romanian team reached quarterfinals of a european cup until then (2005) was on 1990.
After Steaua, he took charge of Crvena Zvezda (Red Star Belgrade) where he did it again: champions in the first year at helm.
After these 3 succesfull years followed times not so good: short spells at Gaziantep and Al Ain.
After that there were rumors that Steaua will offer him the job again. He was convinced by Dinamo Bucharest (Steaua’ main rivals) chairman to accept Dinamo’s offer after he listened to a registered call between a journalist and Steaua’s chairman where the chairman stated very clearly that Zenga doesn’t have a chance to be appointed at Steaua again. So he wanted revenge (he’s an italian, right ?) but didn’t succed at Dinamo and took over Catania.
The irony comes right now, 2 years after: Steaua is in deep crisis, is 6st in Romanian first division table and the chairman is looking for a new coach for next year. Zenga is on his list.I like Zenga very much, he is a great motivator, has experienced of football at big level from his player career and he is very good as manager for clubs that want national title/european qualification.

Congratulation Aleksandar!Keep up whit good work and you’ll be regular in our National Team(da se ja pitam igrao bi ti meni pre onog idiota Obradovica sve u sesnaest ali…).
As for Zenga, I am not so sure he is the right guy for us.Yes he did have some nice results, mostly with the club I don’t like so much Red Star(Partizan fan also), but other then that he didn’t do much.He avoid relegation last season then screw up things for Catania this year,in my opinion they could do more than fight to stay up,and now is going to be sacked. He doesn’t have enough experience to manage club like Lazio, let’s face it, it is not the same to won a title or a European spot with Steaua or Red Star and with Lazio.
Personally I think if we are going to bring in a new manager it should be better than one we have.
